**GORWEL**
Is a business unit within Grŵp Cynefin providing high quality services to:
- support victims of domestic violence
- supporting people to avoid losing their home and preventing homelessness
We work with individuals and families, some of them tenants of Grŵp Cynefin, within four counties in North Wales: Anglesey, Gwynedd, Conwy and Denbighshire.
Our projects include refuges, supported housing schemes, children and young people's services, community support and the service of independent domestic violence advisers. On average, we support up to 650 people a week and we have employ over 60 professional staff.
We have experienced and professional staff working from offices in Penygroes, Caernarfon, Llangefni, Pwllheli, Denbigh, Dolgellau and Blaenau Ffestiniog.

**Emergency refuges and support**
We have four refuges for people who need support to escape domestic violence in Gwynedd and Anglesey. They are safe locations available 24 hours, 7 days a week in an emergency for women and their children, and there is also provision for men.
Our Floating Support and Crisis Intervention Scheme supports women, men and their families in Gwynedd and Anglesey.
**Job Purpose**:
To provide a high quality mentoring service to service users* suffering from domestic abuse in a refuge with low, medium and high needs so that Gorwel excels.
To assist Support Workers and work with other members in the community to achieve the aims and objectives of the scheme.
To provide support to service users suffering domestic abuse focusing on positive outcomes.
To mentor service users to rebuild their lives in a holistic and person centred manner to realise high standards of performance that offers ‘support and more’.
- *The term ‘service user’ refers to men, women, children, young people, adults, older people and families. _
**MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES**
1. To mentor and stimulate service users to succeed in living a nonviolent life and help them regain control of their lives to promote independence
2. To maintain a positive and therapeutic relationship with service users, displaying understanding of issues regarding trauma, attachment and personality disorder.
3. To organise transport and access for service users who attend the scheme.
4. To ensure that the property, including the bedrooms, are clean and tidy at all times, and ensuring that there are cooking utensils etc. in the project, maintaining a current inventory of the equipment and utensils in the scheme.
5. To explain the responsibilities of service users in supported housing properties, social housing properties or private properties.
6. To provide practical and emotional support in order to stimulate service users to excel in the Supporting People Programme outcomes:
- Feeling safe
- Contributing towards their own and others’ safety and well-being
- Accommodation management
- Stimulating a healthy relationship
- Feeling part of the community
- Managing money and budgeting
- Participating in education and learning
- Investigate volunteering and work opportunities
- Health and safety
- Mental health
- Adopting a healthy lifestyle
7. To support service users to respond to the objectives in individual support plans, being part of discussing the level of need, objectives and progress in accordance with the Supporting People Programme guidance.
8. To assist service users to implement the objectives in the risk management plans.
9. To maintain service users’ files in accordance with statutory requirements, data protection act, keeping clear and concise records and making full use of the case management system, Discovery.
10. To respond promptly and inform the Team Leader about any Child Protection and Protection of Vulnerable Adults, completing accurate and factual referrals for Social Services.
11. To support service users to attend appointments with the Department of Work and Pensions, Housing Department, Welfare Rights Agency, Health and Well-being and relevant agencies.
12. To assist Support Workers to provide information to service uses and to assist them with completing relevant forms.
13. To support service users to deal with welfare benefit issues, including housing benefit.
14. To support service users to manage their personal budget and assist them to pay rent / service charge.
15. To respond to cases of dispute or anti-social behaviour by completing behaviour reports / serious incident reports.
16. Maintain working relationships with external agencies including Gorwel’s internal plans.
17. To support service users in the project to establish links with their relatives (if possible).
