**Detailed job description and main responsibilities**:
The post holder will provide highly specialist, tertiary level clinical psychology input to babies, children and young people seen by the Paediatric Cochlear Implant Service and across the general paediatric psychology service within the AVM services. It is suitable for qualified psychologists with an interest in working with children and young people who are deaf, hearing impaired or experience sounds differently. Existing experience of paediatric clinical psychology is necessary together with a keen interest in developing skills in this area. The focus of this role is to contribute to the provision and further development of a high quality multidisciplinary and clinical service for children and young people with sound-related impairment, causing cognitive, communication, and/or emotional difficulties, impacting on development and wellbeing. The post holder will receive close supervision and sometimes work in collaboration with other team members. As a scientist-practitioner, the post holder will be implementing interventions which are theoretically driven and, where appropriate, will participate in research projects.
- The post holder may be potentially responsible for attached doctoral trainees and assistant and/or graduate psychologists as applicable. They will be expected to utilise research skills for audit, policy and service development within the areas served by the Paediatric Clinical Psychology Department.

**Knowledge and Qualifications**:
**Essential criteria**:

- Honours degree in psychology or a related discipline; post-graduate doctoral level training in clinical/counselling psychology (or its equivalent for those trained prior to 2000) as accredited by the British Psychological Society, or British Psychological Society Statement of Equivalence. HCPC registration
- Knowledge/experience of specialist psychological assessment and treatment of patients across the full range of care settings, including community, primary care, outpatient and inpatient settings
- High-level knowledge of the theory and practice of two specialised psychological theories
- Ability to make diagnostic decisions, give second opinions and make differential diagnoses as part of multidisciplinary assessments
- Knowledge of legislation in relation to the patient group and mental health Evidence of continuing professional development as required by the HCPC
- Advanced Doctoral-level knowledge of research methodology, research design and data analysis relevant to clinical psychology
- Ability to work within boundaries of an 8A post, to recognise limitations and search out support when needed

**Desirable criteria**:

- Knowledge of specialised assessment and therapeutic approaches for deaf and hearing impaired children and/or children with complex developmental disabilities. Or experience of working with individuals with long-term health conditions

**Experience**:

- Experience of working with children, young people and families
- Experienced in presenting to different individuals, including peers, service-users, stakeholders, children and adults; peers / colleagues on a range of clinical and research issues
- Experience/Interest in the use of neuropsychological assessments for children and young people

**Skills and Abilities**:
**Essential criteria**:

- Skills in the use of complex methods of psychological assessment, intervention and management
- Skills in providing consultation to other professional and non-professional groups
- Ability to work with interpreters

**Desirable criteria**:

- Skills in supervising other staff
