Beverley, United Kingdom East Riding of Yorkshire Council Full time

**The job itself**:
A 24 year old man who has Autism and generalised Anxiety Disorder is looking for a Support Worker for 20 hours a week. Whilst no personal care is required, the young man would like a support worker to help him with all aspects of daily living.

Tasks will include helping him prepare shopping lists then going out and doing the food shop on his behalf. Support will be required with meal prep ensuring his diet is vegetarian, varied and nutritious. On one day, perhaps a Friday when the young man feels up to it, support with meal prep will be used for batch cooking to ensure that his diet remains varied and nutritious.

Cleaning and support in the home, such as washing dishes for the young man, some days due to sensory differences the support will increase. Support outside the home to complete general tasks, recognising when anxiety is high and providing reassurance in these incidences, while also speaking for him when he requires as he often finds it difficult to do this.

Support in attending Matthews Hub on a Thursday evening is required, which will include travel to the venue in Hull (travel will be paid). Support in accessing these things have to be well planned by the support to reduce as much anxiety for the young man, such as knowing bus times, or train times, for example. Prompts for medication, dressing, and general hygiene will be required.

His condition means that he needs support to encourage him to get out and socialise, but also someone who can recognise when he is getting anxious and who knows when to give some direction and support, such as removing him from the situation and helping him calm down. He struggles socialising and meeting new people so he needs someone who is understanding and calm so he doesn’t feel overwhelmed. The worker must do this in a considerate way, which doesn't pressure or make the young man anxious.

Hours will be
- Mon, Tues, Wed & Fri - 1pm-4pm & Thurs 12pm-8pm

DBS/Reference checks will be required for this post - Cost to be met by the local authority.
