**MEDICAL RECEPTIONIST JOB DESCRIPTION**

**JOB TITLE**: Medical Receptionist

**REPORTS TO**: Reception Supervisor

**HOURS: Thurs 11am - 6.30pm, Fri 9am - 5pm**

**Job Summary**

To receive, direct and assist patients and visitors in accessing the appropriate service or healthcare professional in a courteous and friendly manner. To provide administrative support, services and general assistance to doctors and other Practice staff efficiently and effectively. To represent and promote Springfields Medical Centre in a professional capacity.

**Main Responsibilities**:
**Reception/enquiries/appointments**
- Provide an effective, efficient and friendly reception service to patients and visitors in accordance with Practice protocols.
- Make appointments and deal with all general enquiries both in person and on the telephone.
- Book, amend and cancel appointments on the day and for future dates.
- Book and process requests from home visits as appropriate.
- Take and process messages, requests and tasks to and from patients by telephone and in person.
- Using your own judgement, ensure that patients requesting urgent appointments, advice or home visits are correctly processed and the doctor on duty informed as necessary.
- Ensure that new patients are registered onto the computer system promptly and accurately and advised of all services available to them including online booking, text message consent, sharing preferences etc.
- Keep reception tidy, maintaining a clear desk policy and complying to patient confidentiality and data protection.
- Advise patients of relevant charges for private (non GMS) services, accept payments and issue receipts for the same.
- Give out test results on Patients request

**Administrative**
- Assist the clinical staff and management with any administrative tasks deemed appropriate, including chronic disease recalls.
- Enter patient information on to the computer as required.
- Fax and photocopy as required.

**Other Tasks**
- General office administrative tasks e.g. photocopying.
- Keeping workplace tidy and clutter free.
- Tea and coffee making.
- Carry out adhoc administrative duties
- Maintain the integrity of building security.
- Open up the surgery at the start of the day, taking early phone calls from staff and covering reception for the first part of the morning.
- Undertake any additional tasks appropriate to the post as requested by the Partners, Practice or other Managers.
