Covering the full project lifecycle from Feasibility through to Decommissioning, we are looking for a Control & instrumentation technical authority with experience in the Oil & Gas; Nuclear; Power Generation and Gas Networks Sectors.
**About the job**
As a Control and Instrumentation Technical Authority you will be responsible for C&I Technical assurance and leadership to Costain Natural Resources and Transport division, with a focus on engineering and design operations as part of a multi-discipline TA team.
As a client facing Chief Engineer, your responsibilities could involve
- Support will be required at all stages of project delivery, client engagement, tendering, concept, detailed design, construction, commissioning, handover, and legacy remedial works
- Have sufficient breadth of experience to work across multiple project types include energy, power, water, highways, defence, and rail, reflecting the diversity of Costain’s current portfolio
- Develop engineering / design and build phase estimates for projects and studies
- Responsible for achieving safe-by-design, compliant, future proofed, cost-effective, sustainable, digitally enabled C&I output
- Responsible for C&I corporate processes, including technical, competency, software systems, technical standards, innovation and ensuring lessons learnt are embedded
- Support the recruitment of staff and contract personnel, in Costain and our supply chain
- Aid the professional development of individuals and coordinate with professional institutions
- Inspire collaboration and upskilling across the teams.
**About you**
- Chartered Engineer with a history of continued professional development and robust technically focused knowledge and ability
- Degree in relevant engineering discipline (e.g. Electronic / Electrical / Control Engineering) Apprenticeships may be considered
- Have knowledge of UK regulatory framework and global best practice for areas of focus, such as cybersecurity, obsolescence and increased digitisation of client systems
- Extensive knowledge of UK legislation and standards
- Competence in the specification and design of Safety Instrumented systems in line with IEC 61511 and IEC 61508
- Proven track record in Control & Instrumentation across a wider range of industries, under-pinned with UK professional certifications
- Understand engineering and design operations, be able to deliver works personally for estimates, assurance, reports, audits, inspections, client presentations and similar. Be able to work on sensitive projects and develop sensitive documents
- Good knowledge of design working practices and installation requirements of the discipline across a range of industries.
- Competence in the requirements for installation of instrumentation in process plants involving potentially explosive areas
- Experience in the requirements for CE marking of plant and equipment, including Atex, PED, Low Voltage Directive, Machinery Directive and EMC Compliance
- Awareness of risk identification, quantification, management and of HSE requirements
