This is an exciting opportunity to join the Office for Investment and work across government to land investment into the United Kingdom.
The Office for Investment (OfI) was established by the Prime Minister in November 2020 and was created to ensure the UK's approach to investment comes from the very top of government.
The OfI was created to unlock significant strategic investments aligned to the government's priorities, including:
- Net Zero
- Levelling Up
- Science and Technology Superpower
- Sovereign Investment Partnerships
We want to make the UK the best place in the world for international investors and ensure the most significant investors receive the strongest possible cross-government support to realise their UK investment.
To be successful in this post you will need to work with colleagues across Whitehall and at c-suite level with major international investors to help secure investment into HMG’s most strategic priorities.
As a member of the senior leadership team, you will be able to motivate and develop the team to maintain a high performing, dynamic and confident culture within the OfI.
**Job description**:
We are looking for a Director with deep experience in financial markets to join the Office for Investment to provide genuine expertise in the structuring of deals.
The Director will be one of two senior Directors who will have responsibility for leading and driving the Office’s most important and high-profile projects.
This will require the individual to interact and influence government ministers and Secretaries of State as well as senior officials at all levels. In the private sector, the individual will need to be able to interact with CEOs to influence them with impact. It is essential this individual has credible expertise. The Director is expected to be a visible leader in both the Civil Service and investment communities to demonstrate leadership of the Office for Investment in the entire investment space. The experience outside of government will be complimentary of the skillset of the existing team.
The Director will be a part of the Office of Investment senior leadership team with overall responsibility for shaping the direction of the office including how it grows and evolves with direct line management responsibilities. The Director is expected to establish relationships that cement the role of the Office as a key part of the Whitehall investment machinery.
**Responsibilities**:
- Be part of the senior leadership team in the Office for Investment.
- Set the direction of the Office’s investment missions. Embed a deal-making strategy that will ensure OFI delivers investment to all parts of the UK, to boost growth across all regions of the UK, enhancing productivity and job creation.
- Help the UK become an attractive and competitive investment proposition by working across government to improve the UK investment environment and remove barriers to investment.
- Successfully landing complex deals and foreign direct investment
**Person specification**:
**Essential Criteria**:
- Experience of working across different geographies on high-value investment, either corporate or capital
- Significant business acumen with a proven ability to get senior buy-in
- First-class judgement and political nous, including the personal credibility to become a trusted advisor to Ministers and senior officials
- Highly developed communications and interpersonal skills
- Extensive senior leadership experience
