**Main purpose of the role**:

- To provide a high standard of physical, emotional, social and intellectual care for children at Rowley Village Nursery.
- To work as part of a team in order to provide an enabling environment in which individual children can play, develop and learn
- To build and maintain a strong partnership with parents to enable children’s needs to be met

Key Responsibilities and Accountabilities:
Childcare:

- To effectively deliver the Early Years Foundation Stage framework (EYFS) ensuring that the individual needs and interests of children in the Nursery are met (in conjunction with other team members) by providing stimulating activities appropriate for each child’s developmental level.
- Participate in the key person system and be responsible for a group of children. Monitor, assess, record and report on their development and progress - looking for progression and continuity. Share this information with the child’s parents/carers and encourage them to participate in their child’s progress and development.
- Ensure the provision of a high quality environment to meet the needs of individual children having an awareness of any disabilities, family cultures and medical histories.
- Assist in the preparation of your room based on your planning to support the needs of the children in your care by creating a stimulating and attractive environment.
- Ensure your key children’s files are kept up to date in terms of planning for their individual needs, the environment, observations and photographic evidence.
- Advise the Manager/Deputy Manager of any concerns, e.g. over children, parents, the safety of the environment, confidentiality issues etc.
- Be aware of child protection issues and follow the Nursery’s Safeguarding Children policy and procedures.
- Assist children with personal care, including; mealtime supervision, changing nappies, assisting with potty training and other associated welfare duties.
- Participate in free flow systems. This aids children’s development in self assurance, independence, making choices and self selecting. Ensure no child is ever left on their own. Support the children’s play as and when required.
- Never leave the room/area and put your colleagues at risk of being below ratio - unless in case of emergency.

Communication:

- To keep confidential any information regarding the children, their families or other staff that is acquired as part of the job.
- Be responsible for your room/area, report when resources run low.

Teamwork:

- To be involved in out of normal working hours activities, e.g. parents evenings, training, staff meetings, summer fair etc.
- To be aware of the high profile of the Nursery and to uphold its standards at all times, both in work hours and outside
- To support other nursery practitioners, students and volunteers
- Work in partnership with other early years professionals and outside agencies.

Health & Safety and Security:

- To ensure good standards of safety, hygiene and cleanliness are maintained at all times.
- Assist in the care, maintenance and security of all (indoor/outdoor) equipment and toys at the Nursery.
- Be familiar with emergency and security procedures e.g. fire, dropping off and collecting children.
- Ensure that all medication is recorded on the appropriate paperwork and signed off by the parent/carer.

General:

- To be flexible regarding working hours and within working practices at the Nursery, undertaking other responsible duties where needed, such as domestic tasks, preparation of snack meals, cleaning of equipment etc.
- To read, understand and adhere to all policies and procedures relevant to your role and the safe running of the Nursery
- To inform the Management of absence before 8.00am by phone and a follow up call before 3.00pm with an estimated date of return. Text messages are not acceptable
- To ensure you are dressed in identified uniform; black trousers, blue t shirt, blue sweatshirt, black shoes and name badge
- Long hair must be tied back, minimum jewellery, nails to be short with no varnish.

£9.50p per hour (Minimum Wage - Depending on age)
