We require a motivated and enthusiastic individual to work as a staff nurse on the Haematology and Young Oncology Day unit services at the Christie Hospital in Manchester. This role includes providing a high standard of care for patients with haematological malignancies, lymphoma and teenage oncology patients attending the day care unit, working within a recognised framework in accordance with NMC Code of Professional Conduct, The Christie Policies and Health and Safety Legislation. We require a nurse who is eager to learn new skills, such as cannulation. Venepuncture, Chemotherapy giving, providing support to all our patients, and continued learning and development through the role to enhance patient care.
Working hours - Monday to Friday open hours 8-6
This role will enhance IV skills and chemotherapy administration both infusion and bolus and will require nursing patients with complex needs and supportive requirements. This role offers a vast amount of learning opportunities and working a long side a well-established multi-disciplinary team.
We are seeking enthusiastic, motivated nurses who are flexible, display initiative and possess excellent communication skills.
Experience in Haematology or Oncology is essential, Teenage and Young adult (TYA) nursing desirable. Training and support will be given.
Working hours Monday-Friday shifts between 8-6 excluding bank holidays

Clinical
To assess and triage patients appropriately, seeking intervention from other members of the multidisciplinary team as necessary.
Assessment of the needs of the patient and family, ensuring provision of patient centred care which focuses on the promotion of health as well as illness.
Ensure accurate documentation of patient care in accordance with hospital policies and standards.
Maintain safe practice according to Hospital Policies and Standards.
Ensure all prescribed drugs and treatments are given in accordance with Hospital Policy.
Maintain a clean and safe environment for immuno-compromised patients.
Ensure that blood products are administered correctly and in accordance with Hospital Procedure and Policy.
Administer chemotherapy and bolus chemotherapy via established central lines and peripheral cannula in line with hospital policy and UKONS standards.
**Liaise with external multidisciplinary teams (eg**: district nurses, Macmillan nursed, hospice staff)
Provide a supportive service to patients and carers/families from diagnosis through all stages of the disease.
Monitor results and bring to the notice of appropriate medical staff if abnormal to minimise risk to patient
Arrange patients follow up appointment or admission dates for next course of treatments
Work closely with ward manager and specialist nurses to facilitate seamless transition for patients from inpatient to outpatient status (and vice versa)
Establish and maintain close collaboration with consultant, medical staff to facilitate the best possible patient care.
Managerial
To rotate through the units and coordinate day to day running of the haematology day unit and Young oncology day unit ensuring that standards of care are maintained.
Liaise with Senior Sisters of the department (HTDU & outpatient clinics, apheresis, YOU day unit).
Keep Senior Nurse Managers/Lead nurses aware of pertinent issues in the clinical area.
Help foster a supportive working environment and maintenance of staff morale, promoting a culture where staff feel valued and are able to reach their potential.
Act as preceptor/mentor to new ward staff and Pre and Post registered Nurse.
Work with Senior sister to ensure clinical standards of care are achieved and participate in audit of clinical care.
Be aware of responsibilities with regard to Health and Safety at Work Act. Maintain and develop an environment and culture that improves health, safety and security.
Supporting the Senior sister in initiating and implementing change, and in promoting an awareness of professional accountability.
Supporting the senior sister when appropriate, in the recruitment and selection of new staff to the clinical area
Actively participate in Clinical Risk As
