As an Engineering Intern at R3, you will be immersed in the cutting-edge world of Corda, our DLT platform designed for running complex workflows between businesses without any centralized points of control. Working on a distributed ledger with huge throughput, reliability, and uptime guarantees, you'll contribute to projects for some of the most demanding customers worldwide, including central banks, commercial banks, and payment companies.
**About you**:
We are seeking a high-performing computer science student who is fuelled by passion and curiosity to learn. Your strong grasp of computer science fundamentals will serve as a foundation for continuous learning and growth throughout your internship.
While we are a Kotlin shop at heart, we believe the best engineers can adapt to any language. Whether you're already familiar with Kotlin or bring a strong software engineering background, your eagerness to learn is what matters most to us.
**About your internship**:
At R3 you will deliver on a project from start to end, with a designated line manager and mentor to support you throughout. Engage in weekly one-to-one sessions with your manager to discuss feedback and set goals for the upcoming week. Attend tech talks and gain insights from leaders across the organisation, offering you a holistic view of how a pioneering tech start-up operates from Engineering to Sales.
No team is an island and collaboration is key - you will work closely with diverse team members to help ensure we build the best product possible. Showcase your work, learn from experienced engineers, and make the most of the opportunities presented during your internship.
**Responsibilities**:
- ** Coding and Development**:
Collaborate with cross-functional teams to design, develop, and test software solutions.
Write clean, and efficient code while adhering to coding best practices.
- ** Problem Solving**:
Analyse complex problems putting your critical thinking skills to the test while you come up with creative and efficient solutions.
- ** Testing and Quality Assurance**:
Testing is a vital part of any software lifecycle. Every engineer is required to be able to test the code they write.
- ** Documentation**:
Document code as you go, a vital skill for any engineer.
- ** Learning and Growth**:
Actively seek opportunities to enhance technical skills and stay up to date with industry trends and best practices.
Participate in training sessions and workshops to improve proficiency in relevant technologies.
We hold regular learning days where we encourage you to seek out areas in which you can up-skill and further enhance your development as a software engineer.
- ** Adaptability**:
Adapt quickly to changes in project requirements, timelines, and technology stacks.
- ** Code Reviews**:
Engage in regular code reviews to ensure adherence to coding standards and best practices.
- ** Team Collaboration**:
Work collaboratively with team members to achieve project goals and contribute to a positive and productive team culture.
Actively participate in team meetings, sharing insights and updates.
