**Job Overview**
Stepping Stones Together ABA Social Club is seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic **Volunteer Play Assistant** to support autistic children in developing social and play skills within a structured and supportive environment. This role is ideal for individuals who are passionate about working with children with special educational needs (SEN) and want to make a meaningful impact in their lives. The Volunteer Play Assistant will help facilitate activities, encourage positive peer interactions, and ensure the well-being of the children during club sessions.
**Duties and Responsibilities**:
- Support the planning and delivery of structured play sessions designed to enhance social interaction, communication, and cooperation among autistic children.
- Supervise and actively engage with children during play-based activities, ensuring a safe, positive, and inclusive environment.
- Encourage and model appropriate social skills, including turn-taking, sharing, and effective communication.
- Work collaboratively with Behaviour Analysts (BCBAs), ABA tutors, and other volunteers to implement structured play and behaviour support strategies.
- Monitor children’s engagement and progress, offering gentle support and encouragement as needed.
- Assist with setting up and tidying away play equipment and resources before and after sessions.
- Provide feedback to the session leaders about children's participation and any notable observations.
- Follow safeguarding and health & safety procedures to ensure the well-being of all children in attendance.
**Qualifications and Skills**:
- A passion for supporting autistic children and children with additional needs in a social setting.
- A passion for working with children, particularly those with SEN or in a play-based setting.
- Strong communication skills, with the ability to engage children in play and interact effectively with parents and professionals.
- Patience, empathy, and a willingness to learn about autism and ABA principles.
- Ability to follow instructions and work collaboratively as part of a team.
- Basic understanding of safeguarding procedures (training will be provided).
