Our client is looking to recruit a Payroll Officer (Hybrid working) to assist in supervising a payroll team of 5 within their Shared Service Centre..

**ACTIVITIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES OF THE POST**

**Principal purpose of the role**
- To work as part of the SSTC People Transactions Team (Payroll) carrying out clerical duties and assisting with the effective administration of Payroll.

**Main activities of the role **_**(This list is not exhaustive**_**)**
- Assist with the control processes including uploading data and running the payroll system following defined procedures.
- Supervise payroll production, ensuring that information entered into the payroll system is accurate, complete and timely.
- Arrange payment to third parties for statutory and voluntary deductions from payroll
- Scrutinise claims within the audit role of the i-expenses system to ensure policy / regulation and compliance.
- Provide advice on conditions of service and statutory deductions e.g. income tax, pensions and national insurance.
- Ensuring monthly submissions to HMRC are filed accurately and on time.
- Assist with the correspondence/ reports with internal and external bodies in respect of pay information.
- Provide support for employees with regards to pension enquiries in conjunction with pension administrators.
- Provide support and guidance to the Transactional Assistants (Payroll).
- Any other duties that are commensurate with the role and grade as may be requested by management.

**PERSON SPECIFICATION**

**Essential Criteria**
- Proven experience of working in a payroll environment
- Ability to interpret legislation, national guidance for example in respect of pay regulations
- Proven experience of interpreting and implementing financial procedures
- Ability to work to strict deadlines
- Demonstrate good written and oral communication skills
- Proven experience of supervising staff
- Advanced knowledge of Microsoft products such as Excel

Desirable Criteria
- Experience of public sector finances
- CIPP qualification

**Job Types**: Full-time, Permanent

**Salary**: £26,000.00-£29,500.00 per year
