The Neurobiology research group in Pharmacology and Therapeutics are looking for an experienced research scientist to have a leading role in an exciting Motor Neurone Disease Association funded project. The project is a collaboration between researchers working in motor neuron disease (MND), and computer scientists working with biological information. The post holder will develop, maintain and run bioinformatics pipelines and workflows to analyze large genetic datasets of patients affected by MND to investigate the genetic basis of MND. There will be a specific focus on variation in repetitive DNA such as retrotransposons. Such datasets include whole-genome sequencing, methylation arrays, SNP arrays and clinical information of over 10,000 individuals, the majority of who are MND patients. Lifestyle and RNAseq data are also available for a subset.
Any applicants who are still awaiting their PhD to be awarded should be aware that if successful, they will be appointed at grade 6, spine point 30. Upon written confirmation that they have been successful in being awarded their PhD, they will be moved onto grade 7, spine point 31 from the date of their award.
