On behalf of Oxford City Council, Opus People Solutions are seeking an Environmental Health Officer to complete a temporary assignment for a period of six months. As an Environmental Health Officer you will effectively carry out casework and projects inany relevant work area across Regulatory Services and Community Safety Services under the direction of the relevant team manager. You will prepare necessary evidence to take proportionate enforcement decisions and appear in court or at a tribunal hearing insupport of legal proceedings where necessary.

This role is partially remote and partially based at St Aldate's Chambers.

Main responsibilities - Carry out a range of proactive and reactive casework in the HMO Enforcement Team including:

- Surveying and inspecting land and buildings under relevant legislation, drawing up reports, specifications and schedules of works where applicable and collecting samples, when appropriate.
- Carrying out casework as assigned by the Team Manager or Principal Lead Officer, ensuring cases are progressed to a satisfactory conclusion in accordance with the Service’s procedures. In particular:

- Undertaking investigations and collecting evidence as necessary
- Deciding and taking the most appropriate course of informal or formal enforcement action.
- Serving legal documents as necessary.
- Attending court and other hearings, giving evidence as necessary
- Providing advice to individuals, businesses and other stakeholders, providing information and publicity material.
- To support continuous improvement within the Service
- To contribute to the activities of the HMO Enforcement Team and wider Service
- Participate in project work and carry out other duties as may be required.
- At times, the post holder may be asked to provide flexibility across the service to cover peaks and troughs of work demand demonstrating a team player approach.

Essential criteria -- A degree in Environmental Health or other relevant professional qualification.
- Experience of a wide range of enforcement of relevant Environmental Health legislation.
- Experience of attending meetings, committees, inquiries/court hearings on casework and related matters.

Desirable criteria -- Certificate of registration from the Environmental Health Officers Registration Board (EHORB).
