**Overview**
Pertemps Recruitment on behalf of Buckinghamshire Council has an exciting opportunity for a Grounds Maintenance Operative to join the Street Scene team in Aylesbury (HP20 area). Working alongside the Street Scene team, you will play an important role in thedelivery of a safe and efficient grounds maintenance service and will be responsible for maintaining the Councils parks and open spaces through a variety of horticultural tasks such as, grass cutting, shrub bed work, hedge maintenance, ensuring sites are cleanand tidy (free from litter) and gritting, snow clearance. This role has a pay rate of £10.92 per hour.
**About the role**
As a Grounds Maintenance Operative, you will be responsible for:
- Using relevant machinery and equipment to complete the tasks. The role holder will also be involved in maintaining and preparing the Councils football/cricket pitches
- Having good communication skills, combined with a pro-active and flexible approach to duties
- Understanding the high level of health and safety risks involved in operational services and will role model good health and safety practices. Employees will participate in and complete all training activities required for the role and will adhere to healthand safety Regulations and the Council's safety rules at all times including the wearing of company issue uniform and Personal Protection Equipment (PPE)
- Attending and participate positively in activities such as team meetings and performance review meetings as required
- Working within the councils policy/procedural framework under close supervision. The Council has a set of defined principles, policies and procedures and the jobholder will The jobholder will have little scope to deviate from detailed work instructions
**About you**
- The will and ability to understand and carry out instructions from other team members and supervisors
- An understanding and learn the Buckinghamshire Council's Service Standards
- Adaptability to ensure a consistent service and high customer service standards
- An understanding of the expectation to suggest improvements to working methods and spot opportunities for commercial or service development and actively pursue these
- PA1 and PA6 (advantageous but is not essential as training will be provided)
- Full UK Driving License preferred
- Practical understand of ride on mowers, hedge trimmers and strimmer's
- Minimum two years horticultural experience desirable
- A view that ensures the work and role focus supports The Buckinghamshire Council's vision for the Aylesbury Vale and its commercial strategy, by delivering cost effective solutions, profitable products and services, with the customer at the heart
- Commercially minded attitude in accordance with the council's behavioural framework and encourage colleagues to behave in this way, challenging inappropriate behaviour where applicable.
- Compliance with the council's policies, procedures and Governance frameworks including those relating to Customer Care, Financial Management, Equality and Diversity, Safeguarding, Information Security, Resilience, Health and Safety
- The desire to meet the individual needs of customers and other staff and not to treat anyone less favourably on the grounds of race, age, disability, sex, gender reassignment, sexual orientation, pregnancy/maternity, religion or belief marriage and civilpartnership
- The understanding that this role is very physically demanding and the jobholder will work outdoors in all weather conditions
