TRANSPORT OPERATIONS SUPERVISOR
Job summary
As a Transport Operations Supervisor you will provide and manage a safe, efficient, reliable and cost-effective delivery and collection service for the company and our customers. You will manage a team of drivers and vehicles to ensure a high standard of customer satisfaction at all times, along with compliance for the operators licence.
**Specific responsibilities (to include but not limited to)**:
- Efficiently manage a team of drivers and vehicles.
- In charge of the day to day operations of the transport department.
- Responsible for all the dispatching and tracking of delivery vehicles.
- Ensuring company compliance of all transport policies, legislation and procedures to do with operating vehicles and training.
- Managing, monitoring and developing a team of drivers and driving assessors.
- Being the first point of contact with the drivers.
- Ensuring all transport fleet vehicles are properly maintained and serviced.
- Arranging induction training for all new drivers.
- Regularly liaising with the Planning Leads to ensure smooth running of both departments, providing support in times of holiday and sickness.
- Developing and nurturing subcontractor relationships.
- Planning site visits to validate the delivery area is safe and accessible.
- Responsible for all health and safety and accident investigations.
- Maintaining accurate administration records.
- Ensuring drivers debriefs are completed and errors are investigated with disciplinary action being taken if required. All fines incurred by drivers to be investigated and challenged where necessary.
- Ensuring drivers checks are being completed and taking part in ad-hoc checks as required.
- Identifying operational issues, potential problems and investigating opportunities as requested by management.
- Resolving and managing queries and complaints courteously and efficiently.
- Appraising staff performance.
- Planning drivers CPC training to ensure compliance.
- Keep accurate records and complete audits to continue compliance for FORS Bronze accreditation.
- Annual review of operator and driver handbooks/work instructions and agree updates with management.
- Organise monthly driver’s meetings/toolbox talks and complete training record sheets.
Job holder requirements
- Able to operate effectively in a high volume, service driven transport operation.
- Possess a good understanding of all relevant legal compliance and fleet controls.
- Experience of budgets and financial controls.
- Knowledge in all process compliance areas including legislative, productivity, quality and service.
- Comprehensive understanding of all areas of the supply chain.
- Full understanding of transport operational systems.
- Must hold both National and International CPC or be willing to work towards.
- Man management skills.
- Problem solving and prioritising skills.
- Strong communication and analytical skills.
- Ability to develop multiple relationships at different levels.
