UI Designer, Product Designer - Fintech

**The Design Challenge**:
8 out of 10 small-to-medium sized businesses in developing countries get rejected by banks when they try to trade internationally.

Those that manage to get access to accounts are severely underbanked facing compliance hurdles, unexplained closures of their accounts and poor customer experiences.

We're on a mission to make small businesses bankable again. We're here to enable freedom of trade and make it easy for merchants to grow their businesses internationally. We're here to help communities sustainably grow their wealth, and improve their quality of life.

We need an experienced Product UI Designer to join our growing design team and own the end-to-end design and delivery of our look and feel. If you crave autonomy, creative freedom, collaboration, the opportunity to do things the right way, and the chance to see your vision realised in a product used by customers in cultures around the world, this could be the role for you.

**The Design Work**:
We're a small, but growing design function in a scale-up organisation. As our first dedicated UI Designer, reporting to the Lead Product Designer, you'll be focussed on exploring, defining, componentising and delivering our product's look and feel.

You'll be responsible for the development and day-to-day running of our Design System. You'll work closely with our Engineering teams to create UI components, ensure we're using the correct tools and platforms needed to provide a home for these components and lead the cross-discipline guild who will be keeping the Design System relevant and vibrant for years to come.

As the business transitions to work in cross-functional squads, the other core aspect of your role will be to provide UI Design support across squads. You'll work intimately with the squad's dedicated UX Designer, exploring design options and delivering production UI designs powered by your Design System.

You'll also act as a vital conduit between Product Design and Frontend Engineering. A good working knowledge of modern Front End development libraries and languages (Vue, React, Javascript, Flutter, etc ) will be very important in making sure our designs are realistic and executable. And be prepared to roll up your sleeves - from time to time you may be asked to help the Engineering team develop or tweak the Design System's Front End components directly.

We're about to drop a fresh update to our brand guidelines: new logos, new colour palettes, new fonts. One of your first projects will be figuring out how we execute this brand direction in our core products.

This is a really exciting time to be joining our Design team. We have two UX Designers (who also run their own user research), a Design Lead and you as our first dedicated UI Designer. We've laid some great foundations - we have some components, we're doing some user research, we have a fledgling user-centred design process - but we need talented and experienced people like yourself to build these capabilities out and shape the direction we go.

Our ways of working are collaborative at their heart. You'll be working closely with other designers on the latest projects, while being supported and guided by strong leadership from both Product Design and Product Management

We're also massive believers in the power of professional development. It's good for you, and it's good for us. We want you to have the time and freedom to learn new skills, try new tools, explore new design approaches. And your line manager is a qualified coach and mentor - super willing to help discuss your professional goals and work with you to achieve them.

**What the job involves**:

- Own our Design System:
Originate the atoms, molecules, organisms and views that make up the Design System

Work with the design team to validate components through user testing

Create and maintain workflows to manage changes to our Design System

Be the Design System champion - advocating its value in the business
- Originate, explore, iterate and collate a strong visual language for our products, inspired by our brand guidelines.
- Develop a strategy for supporting multiple devices' size, resolution, aspect and shape.
- Collaborate with design and squad teams to create and execute best-in-class UI design.
- Keep one eye on industry's product design trends, ensuring we remain vibrant and relevant.
- Support the engineering team in building and tweaking Front End components.
- Maintain high standards of accessible and inclusive design.
- Expectation to come into our London office every Wednesday + occasional workshops in London or abroad, as required.
- Willingness to travel abroad.

**About you**:

- You've got 2-4+ years design experience, and at least 2+ years as a digital product UI Designer.
- You have demonstrable experience of building, using and version workflowing components in an atomic fashion as part of a design system.
- You're a strong communicator in group se
