**JOB TITLE: Kitchen Assistant**

**REPORTING TO: CHEF/COOK**

**JOB PURPOSE**:To work with the Chef/Cook in preparing all residents’ meals, ensuring work is carried out in a safe and hygienic way, the kitchen is kept clean, meeting the Food Safety guidelines and Marton Care Homes own high standards.

**MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES**:

- To assist the Cook with the preparation of varied, nutritious meals for the residents.
- Help with the serving of meals for residents, be understanding of any specific food requirements and ensure everyone is treated with respect, dignity and given choice.
- To understand and comply with statutory and legal requirements such as HACCP, Health & Safety, COSHH, Environmental Health, to maintain a safe environment throughout the home.
- To clean and tidy all areas of the kitchen with the correct products following instruction and guidance contained in the cleaning schedules ensuring the care home is always cleaned to the highest standards.
- Ensure that all kitchen equipment is in full, safe working order, immediately report any faults to the Cook.
- To receive and unload new stock, store appropriately and rotate current stock correctly to maintain optimum freshness of all foodstuff.
- To work as an integral part of the team, contribute to meetings and training sessions as required ensuring that the Care Home is a friendly and supportive working environment

Communication:

- Participate in Staff and Resident meetings as and when required.

Training & Development:

- Ensure Mandatory training up to date attending courses on or off site as and when required.
- Supervision meeting with Cook every 2 months
- Results and feedback from Home inspections and audit reports (internal and external).

Health & Safety
- Report immediately to the Home Manager, Person in Charge (or Line Manager), any illness of an infectious nature or accident incurred by a Resident, colleague, self or another.
- Understand and ensure the implementation of the Home’s Health and Safety policy, and Emergency and Fire procedures.
- Report to the Home Manager, or the Handyperson, any faulty appliances, damaged furniture, equipment or any potential hazard.
- Promote safe working practice in the Home.

General:

- This is a team role, fundamentally within the kitchen but also with the rest of the care home team and the residents themselves. Communication is essential in order to plan and provide nutritious, interesting meals which meet the expectations of the residents.
- Promote and ensure the good reputation of the Home.
- Ensure that all information of confidential nature gained in the course of duty is not divulged to third parties.
- Notify the Home Manager, or the Person in Charge, as soon as possible of your inability to report for duty, and also on your return to work from all periods of absence.
- Ensure the security of the Home is maintained at all times.
- Adhere to all Company policies and procedures within the defined timescales.
- Ensure all equipment is clean and well maintained.
- Carry out any other tasks that may be reasonably assigned to you.
