The principal objectives of the **Feathers Association** are raising horizons, nurturing talent, and creating safe spaces for young people in London to grow up in healthy ways. Our vision is that London is a city where all children and teenagerscan achieve their potential through informal education, sporting, cultural and recreational activities. The Charity was originally set up at the behest of the Prince of Wales in 1934 and has been providing Youth Club Services for over 70 years.

It’s an exciting time to join us, as we go through a period of change and continue to build our current youth service offering. We are seeking a part-time Youth Worker to join our Youth Service team. The role will assist the Senior Youth Worker in deliveringa broad and responsive programme of informal learning opportunities mainly for 8 to 25-year olds.

We are looking for a passionate and dynamic individual, committed to safeguarding the welfare of children and young people, who can make a positive impact on their prospects, development and citizenship of their local community. To be successful in thisrole you will have gained previous experience of youth work, ideally delivering activities and programmes aimed at 8 to 25-year olds.

**Key Responsibilities
Working with Young People**
- Operate within a professional team of youth workers to facilitate sessions for young people during youth club evenings and school holiday programmes, including setting up and tidying away of resources;
- Engage in dialogue with young people and develop effective relationships;
- Increase participation of underrepresented groups through targeted sessions and projects;
- Create links with new young people and to support existing members;
- Listen to young people and identify, interpret their needs and respond appropriately;
- Plan, deliver, supervise and facilitate a broad programme of activities both on and off site, including gym, sports, games, arts, crafts, ITC, music production discussion workshops and projects.
- Support the development of outreach work in promoting the club and assessing local young people’s needs and aspirations.
- Promote and encourage participation in activities, support young people to actively participate in decision making and actively support the inclusion of young people with special needs.
- Maintain strong lines of communication with parents / carers / guardians

**Work with others**
- Work with the team to ensure the effective management of the Centre and its resources,
- Plan and evaluate youth work by participating in customer evaluations, supervision, staff meetings and contributing to briefing and debriefing sessions.
- Lead activities and sessions;
- Be an active, positive, accountable member of the youth team.

**Health, safety & welfare**
- Contribute to the provision of a safe and healthy environment ensuring the legislation relating to the health, safety and welfare of young people and staff is complied with at all times;
- Contribute to housekeeping and cleaning of areas;
- Be aware of child protection issues and procedures and respond appropriately.

**Personal responsibility, Team work**
- Attend and participate in meetings and training sessions as and when required;
- Work collaboratively with team members and participate in team activities as required;
- Ensure weekly tasks are completed to a high standard and within the time agreed;
- Complete administrative duties including collating feedback and evaluations, registers, registration forms and session summaries;
- Take on projects as and when needed to support or develop the organisation;
- Act as an Ambassador for the organisation when representing it externally;
- To contribute towards a culture of good moral attitude in the preparation of activities prior the arrival of participants;

Experience**
- Knowledge, skills and understanding of a range of youth work practices (with at least one year of relevant experience);
- High level of understanding of a range of community needs to improve user participation;
- Experience in providing activities for mainly young people aged 8-25 years (e.g. arts and craft, sport, games, ITC, Music, and discussion workshops, off-site activities and residentials);
- Experience of the administration associated with youth work
- Knowledge of policies and practices to enable the club to meet its legal responsibilities.

- A passion for working with young people is essential;
- Good verbal and written communication skills;
- Ability to work with a broad cross-section of cultures, backgrounds and abilities;
- Sensitive to the needs and demands of diverse communities;
- Outgoing, able to establish positive relationships with young people;
- Able to work on own initiative to develop activities as well as contribute and develop ideas as part of a staff team;
- A can-do attitude to solving problems with an openness to learning;
- Keeps calm under pressure maintaining professionalism at all times;
- A full clean driving licence and, ideally, be able to drive a mini-bus.

**Education & Qualifications**
- Undertaking or completed NVQ Level 1 Youth Work or City & Guilds Youth Work or equivalent (desirable - the organisation is willing to provide financial support and training in order to gain NVQ level 1 and up to level 2);
- Safeguarding and child protection (either a formal accredited course or inhouse training with a former employer)
- First Aid; Health and Safety (desirable).
- *There will be the opportunity to undertake over-time during school holidays when the club offers extended services, however this is not a contractual obligation._
