At L3Harris in Brighton we are part of Release Systems and the Mission Avionics sector operating in the Aerospace domain. We specialise in high performance electro-mechanical systems and pneumatic technology for airborne weapon carriage release.
The Manufacturing Engineering Manager’s primary role will be to lead, manage and ensure the Manufacturing engineering team work in accordance with company procedures, directives and agreed Key performance indicators whilst ensuring efficient & cost effectivemanufacturability.
The Manager will set challenging, value adding targets, report performance and provide best manufacturing practices in support of in house manufacturing and the supply chain.
**What the role will involve**
If you’re invited to join our team of dedicated experts, the responsibilities of your role will include the following:
- Manage daily set workload priorities within the team & as required of the IPT (Integrated Project teams)
- Manage the cost estimating of new enquiries for optimum manufacture and ensure any manufacturing risks are identified.
- Develop, implement manufacturing engineering plans and projects and communicate them to internal and external customers.
- Develop manufacturing strategies for products and processes.
- Actively participate with the engineering project teams in order to coordinate the release of new products into manufacture.
- Estimate and track manufacturing costs, determines time standards, and make recommendations for tooling and process requirements of new or existing product lines
- Review and recommend plant improvement and modifications for optimised manufacture and improved efficiencies.
- Provide support, guidance and recommendations to Quality and Purchasing on outsourcing.
- Monitor tooling and consumable spend and
- Report monthly expenditure for inclusion at management meetings.
- Ensure the Company ERP system manufacturing data is accurately input & maintained
- Monitor, review and implement process improvements
- Ensure timely and conforming product manufacture with best resource and plant utilisation.
- Develop a team approach to achieve agreed targets of quality, quantity, cost and on-time delivery and as a key member of the Management Team, provide clear direction on achieving near term and long term operational strategies, objectives and goals.
- Ensure AS9100 and contract compliance through regular audit, review and corrective action management of all P.E.D functions.
**What you’ll bring**
The role of Manufacturing Engineering Manager requires the following experience and skills:
- HNC / HND / Degree (or recognised equivalent) in a Mechanical/Electrical Engineering discipline
- Experience of operating in a Manufacturing /Engineering Leadership/ Management position leading a team of manufacturing engineers.
- Ability to facilitate current designs for obsolescence and Manufacturing improvements
- Ability to define manufacturing criteria from top-level assembly, component drawings and specifications.
- Fully computer literate including as a minimum, detailed knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite and Solidworks Modelling.
- Ability to work to deadlines and prioritise workload appropriately.
- Methodical approach to work.
- Experience of AS9100 & AS9145 preferred
