**Summary**:

- This role is an opportunity to play a leading role within the division that constructs UK government policy regarding the management of the impact on the environment and human health of Chemicals, Pesticides and Hazardous Waste (CPHW). The CPHW Evidence and Analysis Unit is a team of 18 analysts and scientists that advise on the evidence and development of the evidence base needed to ensure the effective regulation of chemicals and pesticides throughout their life cycle for everyone, the environment and the economy. The Evidence and Analysis Unit plays a key role in the development, appraisal and evaluation of policy and works very closely with CPHW policy teams. We also work with several delivery partners to achieve our goals including other Whitehall departments, as well as the Health and Safety Executive, the Environment Agency and international organisations such as the OECD.**Job description**:

- Role 1: Pesticides Economist:

- This is an opportunity to lead the economics input to UK government policy on managing the impact of pesticides on the environment and human health. It includes lead responsibility for appraisal of all proposed regulatory action and the development of relevant business cases. For example, the postholder will lead appraisal of the case for emergency authorisation of individual pesticides for particular uses.
- Role 2: Chemicals Economist:

- The postholder will lead the economics input to implementation of a government manifesto commitment to ban the export of plastic waste. They will lead the analysis feeding into the scope of implementation and the impact assessment for the legislative vehicle.**Responsibilities**:
**Essential Criteria**- Be comfortable working with economic data and reports.
- Be good at working with others including through clear communication and collaboration across a large division.
- Have good analytical skills.
- Be familiar with cost-benefit analysis.

Membership
- Applicants should be a member of the Government Economic Service (GES) or able obtain GES membership as part of the selection process.**Qualifications**:
