Assistant Cheese Maker

White Lake Cheese is expanding Creating a fantastic opportunity for an enthusiastic person to join the White Lake Cheese family. We are in the process of building a new factory and growing the business, so this is an exciting time to be joining us.

**Job purpose**: to assist with the making of around 36 award winning artisan cheeses.

The successful person will be someone that’s excited by the mission of producing and delivering outstanding cheese with beautiful presentation. A positive individual who is outgoing and personable who will be able to work hard on their own initiative and work well in a team.

Cheesemaking is a physically demanding job but is equally rewarding and exciting too. It is a role that often suits chefs looking to retrain.

**Job role**

The job entails working with an experienced team making around 30 cheeses. From pouring curd into moulds, washing equipment and keeping the cheese room clean to turning and brining the cheeses. We are a happy hard-working team that shares the workload and roles. The opportunity to learn the process and become a cheesemaker in the long term will always be available, and we have a structured training programme that allows you to progress at your own speed.

**Knowledge & Skills**
- Experience is not necessary as training will be provided
- Food safety knowledge/experience is not necessary but is desirable (training will be given)

This is a full-time position, but part-time / job share would be considered - 5 days a week - including weekends on a rota basis.

Approximately 40 hours per week.

£11.44 p/h

Permanent position

28 days annual holiday, including Bank Holidays

We are located in a rural area and there is no public transport in the locality, so your own transport is essential.

White Lake Cheese is an award-winning artisanal cheese making farm in Pylle, Shepton Mallet. We have our own goat farm and source ewe and Guernsey cow’s milk from other farms - all contributing to the incredible selection of cheese that we offer.

With a real love for cheese, we aim to produce some of the best cheese in the artisanal market.
