JOB DESCRIPTION - HOUSEKEEPER / ROOM ATTENDANT

This post would be ideal for someone living in Berkhamsted or within a six-mile radius of Berkhamsted.

Berkhamsted Town Hall Trust is a registered charity and is not associated with the local council. The Town Hall comprises of three function rooms and a bar. The function rooms are hired out for various events, including, but not limited to, regular weekday daytime and evening hires as well as over weekends for wedding ceremonies, wedding receptions and private parties.

You will report directly to the Head Housekeeper, who in turn reports directly to the Town Hall Manager.

The job involves the setting up, breaking down and cleaning of the Town Hall for events taking place in the Town Hall.

The setting up and breaking down of rooms will require the moving of furniture.

Cleaning duties consist of the cleaning of all areas as required, including, but not limited to, the toilets and kitchens.

General maintenance activities include, but are not limited to, the changing of light bulbs (requires the use of ladders) as well as the periodic checking of emergency lighting and building alarms.

You will be expected to be able to work unsupervised and will be responsible for the opening and closing of the building as well as the security of the building when it is unoccupied, a Police data check may be necessary.

Whilst at work you will be dealing with and assisting hirers plus their guests as well as members of the general public. You must be polite and helpful to them at all times.

Training for your duties will be provided.

There is an initial six-month probationary period associated with the job.

Work Clothes.

Smart - black polo shirt, black trousers and appropriate black footwear.

Hours.

You will be required to work a minimum of 30 hours per week and occasionally up to 42 hours per week, between the hours of 8:00 a.m. and 2:00 a.m. including weekends. The shifts are normally from 4:00 p.m. or 6:00 p.m. until 11:00 p.m. on Mondays to Thursdays. When there are evening events taking place on Fridays and weekends, the shifts are normally from 6:00 p.m. until either 1:00 a.m. or 2:00 a.m. It is normally a five-day week with two days off although very occasionally it may be a six-day week. A degree of flexibility is expected.

Salary Details.

Salary is paid monthly on the 6th of the month, by electronic transfer. Pay rates are £11.50 per hour for Monday to Friday, £11.85 per hour for Saturdays, £12.50 per hour on Sundays and double time for any hours worked after midnight.

Pension.

All employees of Berkhamsted Town Hall Trust are automatically enrolled into a workplace pension scheme, which is managed by NEST (National Employment Savings Trust). The employee contribution is currently 5% and the Trust also contributes 3%.
