**Job summary**:
The CMA works to promote competition for the benefit of consumers, both within and outside the UK. Our mission is to make markets work well for consumers, businesses and the economy. What we do matters, and our roles are not only intellectually stimulating they also offer a real opportunity to make a difference.

If you offer experience of UK and EU competition or consumer law, regulatory law or state aid casework, this position offers an exciting opportunity to play a key role advising case teams, lawyers and economists at the Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) and ensuring knowledge is effectively shared across the organisation.

**Job description**:
As CMA’s remit continues to evolve and expand, it has never been more important for us to have the resources available to learn lessons from past cases. As a Know-How adviser, you'll focus on building and promoting the CMA's know-how offering to share knowledge effectively. This includes preparing and promoting the use of know-how products, advising case teams, contributing to research tasks, and identifying synergies across projects. You will engage internally and externally to share knowledge and information resources. The role also involves management and budgetary responsibility and offers opportunities to contribute to a wide range of work across CMA’s growing portfolio.

Significant knowledge and practical experience of working in UK and EU competition or consumer law, regulatory law or state aid casework, is essential, as is knowledge and appreciation of applicable public law. Excellent research skills and a record of team working, sharing knowledge effectively and collaborating with internal and external stakeholders is equally important.

The CMA prides itself on being a great place to work and strives to ensure that staff have the opportunity to grow and expand their skills portfolio. As well as being a hugely rewarding, diverse and stimulating place to work, you will have an opportunity to work for the public good whilst stretching and developing yourself in doing so.

**Person specification**:
Your detailed responsibilities will include:

- Working with other members of the know-how team to deliver an efficient, high quality, and staff focused know-how offering (e.g. intranet resources, research queries, know-how talks, bulletins etc) for all CMA staff, contributing to the achievement of the CMA’s cases and ultimately its strategic goals.
- Liaising with other stakeholders as necessary and generally support CMA colleagues in developing a flexible and highly effective knowledge sharing culture using a variety of methods including face-to-face and written communications, working across all organisational levels to ensure relevant know-how is gathered in from projects, made accessible, and used by staff. This includes developing an understanding of how projects proceed at the CMA including overcoming challenges and providing solutions to ensure know-how is created, used and prioritised ahead of demand.
- Preparing and delivering training and support to all staff so that they are good at sharing and using know-how and information resources.
- Preparing and reviewing template documents for case delivery to achieve robust outcomes that are consistent with published CMA guidance, established practice of the CMA, and best practice worldwide.
- Monitoring and assimilating developments in relevant legislation, case law and litigation practice in order to inform CMA staff of these, for example at team meetings or via appropriate updates.
- Contributing to research tasks (including best practices and analysis) relating to competition and consumer law enforcement, mergers, markets studies and investigations and sector regulation/regulatory appeals.
- Building and developing relationships within the CMA and across other government departments where appropriate, to embed and develop a knowledge sharing culture.
- Leading relationships with internal stakeholders and external suppliers of key information resources to procure, administer and raise awareness of information resources.
- Liaising with the relevant Business Managers and Finance teams in respect of procurement of information resources and the Know-how budget.
- Motivating and inspiring project teams to be good knowledge sharers acting as role models to support effective working including effective use of SharePoint.
- Working in supportive partnership with colleagues/teams to fulfil individual and collective objectives.
