Mechanic Operator with Focal Point

We are looking to recruit a Mechanic Operator with Focal Point to join our team at Sparrows. The position will be based offshore. This is a temporary position with a fixed term contract for 6 - 8 months, working a rotation of 3 weeks on / 3 weeks off. The role is for a Crane Operator / Mechanic, but must also be competent to operate a 1st generation cranes (i.e. friction clutch)

The incumbent is regarded as the platform Company Representative and is responsible for establishing and maintaining effective communication with platform representatives to ensure an efficient service is provided on an ongoing basis. The primary responsibilities of the Crane Mechanic Operator / Focal point role is to undertake regular planned preventative maintenance, inspection and servicing routines of all pedestal cranes up to and including six monthly mechanical PMR and competently operate pedestal cranes under direction of nominated platform personnel in accordance with clients and Sparrows operating procedures and Standing instructions.

**Main responsibilities**

**Crane Operation**:

- Responsibility for competently operating platform pedestal cranes under the direction of nominated platform personnel and in accordance with the authorised operator’s instruction manual, platform operating procedures, Company QA System, Standing Instructions No. One and other relevant documentation.
- Operate cranes within their maximum permitted rating and in accordance with manufacturer’s instructions and platform operating procedures at all times. Crane Operations shall only be carried out with a Banksman in attendance.
- On receipt of an instruction to carry out an operation which, in the opinion of the Operator, will cause the crane to be operated in excess of its maximum permitted rating or in contravention of good cranage or engineering practice, the Operator shall STOP the job immediately and explain his concerns to the platform representative. The incumbent should also consult with the Sparrows Contract Support Engineer on these issues.
- The incumbent must have an understanding and adherence to SI-01 Standing Instruction: Offshore Crane Operations. SI-01 has been provided to enable compliance with Legislation, International and Industry Standards, Guidelines and Best Practice.
- The incumbent shall have an understanding of and adherence to LOLER (S12307) Regulations and the clients scheme of compliance (Lifting Plans, Permit to Work, Risk Assessment, COSHH, etc.)

**Crane Maintenance**:

- Carry out daily routine checks on the crane in accordance with the maintenance procedures and pre-start checklist.
- Carry out routine first line crane maintenance duties including greasing, lubrication top up and other crane machinery lubrication duties in accordance with the maintenance routines, manufactures manuals and service charts.
- Perform repair work as identified by PPM inspection, crane operator reports and other inspections on pedestal cranes.
- Maintain cranes in a clean, tidy and, where applicable, watertight condition, including cabs, machinery housings and external surfaces.
- Responsible for carrying out timely breakdown repairs to ensure crane breakdown is kept to within contract targets.
- Ensure equipment integrity by carrying out planned and breakdown maintenance as agreed by Contract Manager and Client, ensuring that all maintenance work is completed during allocated time. The PMR schedule will be in accordance with the Client’s SAP system and your responsibility will be to complete the specified tasks up to and including the six-monthly mechanical PMR’s.
- Ensure all SAP workorder sheets are completed in accordance with Client requirements for input into the maintenance recording system.
- Preparation of platform permits, vessel entry certification and risk assessments for all workscopes in relation to crane maintenance and inspections.
- Preparation of cranes as required by Shell for inspection or survey by certifying authorities or third party ensuring the validity of all relevant certification.
- Instruct and assist crane maintenance personnel in crane maintenance and repair activities as required.
- Daily reporting will be in the form of a written log detailing work carried out, spares ordered and consumed, general condition status etc.
- Liaise daily with Contract Support Engineer to advise him of status of on-going work, highlighting any possible problems.
- Responsible to the Contract Support Engineer for the ordering, receipt, storage and use of all crane related spares and equipment in accordance with the requirements of the contract and the Sparrows Quality Management System. The Offshore Daily Report Form should include an accurate list of consumed spares.
- Responsible for liaising with Contract Office Materials Controller for the supply of materials and spares, ensuring that urgent items are obtained promptly and distributed to the installation.

**Qualifications and experience**

The incumbent must ha
