We are seeking to recruit and enthusiastic motivated and reliable phlebotomist to work within our outpatients clinic at Highbury Hospital.

To collect venous blood samples from patients, as requested for laboratory investigations in clinic environments and visit wards and other departments at Highbury Hospital as requested.

To work within a team, meeting the needs of the client group within a mental health setting.

To provide high quality evidence based care to patients that is responsive, effective and efficient.

We are looking for a friendly and flexible person who is able to work on their own initiative but also works as part of a team. You will need excellent communication and interpersonal skills and be able to work in a variety of care settings. It should be noted that this is an exceptionally busy service, so you will need to have good organisational and time management skills. You will need to have good IT skills and be computer literate.

To deliver high quality care to patients in the clinic and ward settings.

Collection of venous blood samples from patients as per policy following the agreed Trust protocols and techniques of blood collection to correctly identify each patient.

To communicate with the patients and carers whilst performing the procedure, explaining the task being performed and gain informed consent for this procedure to be undertaken.

Accurate, legible labelling of all samples to confirm patient identity.

To work with all patients in a professional and supportive manner ensuring their privacy and dignity is maintained at all times.

Ensures that confidentiality is maintained at all times.

Ensure that Trust infection prevention control policy/ guidelines are adhered to at all times.

To encourage and promote flexibility and innovation within the team to meet the needs of the caseload population.

Maintain accurate and contemporaneous documentation on the Rio system to ensure timely, effective communication and data collection.

Be personally accountable for maintaining skills, knowledge and competence in the use of ICE and using IT.

Be aware of the Data Protection Act to ensure appropriate action is taken to ensure confidentiality and the protection of patient identifiable information at all time.

Work in collaboration with patients, carers and all statutory and voluntary organisations to ensure appropriate, safe and well-coordinated care delivery.

Has the ability to work in a variety of settings and continue to deliver high quality care
