Cosmic People are a DSA registered provider of NMH support to students in Higher Education.

We currently have a vacancy for a Specialist Mentor working on campus at Staffordshire University supporting students with a mental health diagnosis in accordance with their DSA Needs Assessment Report. There will also be the option of remote working to supplement this.

**Job role specifications: -**

As a specialist mentor you will provide specialist, specifically tailored support to enable students to overcome barriers to learning created by a particular disability (e.g. various mental health issues) and to develop students’ skills for autonomy and success in the learning environment.

The support you provide will be student-led to include: empowerment, emotional wellbeing and overcoming barriers to learning.

You will set clear standards and expectations for your sessions and the nature of the help you provide will be in line with the student course requirements and learning preferences.

Cosmic People will offer you the support to succeed in the role with a team of dedicated Account Managers on hand to answer any questions you have. We pride ourselves on our efficient processes with prompt, effective communication and easy to use electronic systems. As a family run company we are a friendly, approachable team with an ethos of putting the student at the heart of everything we do but also supporting our staff in any way we can. Our offices are open Monday to Friday from 8.45am until 5.30pm and we provide a 24 hour out of office mobile for safeguarding and emergencies. We are a nationwide provider of DSA support and have also built up an excellent rapport with lots of Universities throughout the UK and many of those now come to us in order for us to support direct funded students.

- Professional Body Membership:

- MBACP etc.
- Experienced counsellor
- You will have excellent communication, time management and organisational skills
- A good knowledge of the English language
- Be able to work flexibly to support student’s needs
- Maintain professional boundaries and respect confidentiality and data protection requirements
- Be capable and confident and able to work on your own initiative
- Have problem solving skills, empathy, diplomacy and sensitivity
- Empower the student by teaching techniques and strategies to overcome problems
- Using coaching and mentoring techniques to address barriers to learning
- Be student-centred in approach, encouraging students to identify their own objectives for the sessions, whilst using professional judgement to assess their needs
- Be an experienced counsellor willing to transfer these skills to supporting students on a one to one basis in Higher Education
- A good understanding of the academic and social challenges of university life
- IT literate with the capability and knowledge to deliver remote support

Payrate
- Remote - £25 per hour for remote support & £30 per hour on campus support

**Job Type**: Part-time

**Salary**: £25.00-£30.00 per hour
