**Government Relations - Investment Bank (IB)**

As a Barclays Government Relations - Investment Bank (IB), you will be focusing on the policy reform agenda, primarily as it impacts our IB, both in the UK and Europe. Developing close and continuous relationships with stakeholders both in the UK and EU, including Member States. The role will also involve a close working relationship with the Barclays Brussels office. There will also be the opportunity to engage on wider Government Relations activity as it impacts Barclays.

**What will you be doing?**:
- Analysing political and public policy developments that affect Barclays IB and proactively executing advocacy strategies and campaigns to influence the outcome of those developments
- Advising senior leadership on the impact of public policy developments and advocacy responses for the Investment Bank
- Proactively working across teams within the business and forging strong relationships with relevant government departments across these areas
- Understanding how the broader policy and regulatory environment impacts the business and advising them as such. Designing and leading advocacy on relevant policy issues
- Leading in ensuring cross-team coordination, collaboration and preventing any silos emerging
- Building relationships with, HM Treasury and other Whitehall Departments; MPs and financial attaches; the European Commission, Council Reps and MEPs
- Identifying common trends and themes in different policy initiatives, and be able to link that back to the impact on Barclays operating model
- Working closely with regulatory relations/policy; risk; treasury; SME’s in the business and heads of business lines and departments
**What we’re looking for**:
- Effective communicator, comfortable interacting with people at different levels with an ability to influence others to achieve results
- Deep knowledge of both how public policy is formed and an understanding of the workings of government
- Numerate and financially literate; able to understand and contribute to business discussions along with excellent written communications skills, including speeches, articles, letters, blogs
- Politically astute and able to understand the dynamics of large, complex organisations
**Skills that will help you in the role**:
- Knowledge of or demonstrable propensity to learn quickly the fundamentals of the UK and EU legislative systems, policy making, Environmental and Social Governance and NGO landscapes
- Good relationship and excellent stakeholder management skills both across teams and upwards throughout organisations
- Proven experience of working across teams and able to contribute to strategic direction.
- Experience of working on policy and legislative issues as they impact capital markets
**Where will you be working?**
In the heart of Canary Wharf, our headquarters at Churchill Place boasts onsite amenities such as; a gym, staff restaurant and deli bar, and is easily accessible by tube and bus links. With a population of around 5000 staff the atmosphere is second to none with a real buzz being created around the offices within.
