Within this well-established 8 partner accountancy firm, based at London Waterloo, working within a dedicated team who pride themselves on providing a professional service
to their clients, this role would suit an enthusiastic, diligent and thorough individual who will enjoy leading internal and external stakeholders on all VAT matters. The stakeholders include but are not limited to Partners, Managers, clients and HMRC.
Experience of sophisticated VAT planning with demonstrable skills and proven experience.
Working knowledge of UK VAT rules.
Responsible for delivery of all VAT compliance submissions and payments in line with set deadlines.
Manage relationship with VAT Authorities.
Provides responses to VAT enquiries and proactively manage external advisors to respond to tax authorities on a timely basis.
Identifies areas to improve the effectiveness of our VAT planning activities and initiates and drives efforts to streamline or improve processes, tools and reporting.
Keeps self technically up to date with evolving VAT tax legislation.
Functional expert on department procedures & practices also adept at predicting how new VAT legislation will impact the business.
Develops strong business partnerships, provides relevant & reliable timely VAT information to all key customers to enable them to manage their budgets and business.
Being held accountable for their own work as well as the work they have reviewed.
Work closely with the Partners and Outsourced Finance Department and be the first point of contact for any VAT queries.
Work closely with HMRC with VAT enquiries on behalf of clients. This would include being at the premises of clients for any VAT inspections carried out in person.
Train the Outsourced Finance Department on how any changes to VAT will affect their bookkeeping and VAT returns.
Preparation of VAT consultancy reports.
Leads “Making Tax Digital” for VAT.
Strong knowledge on partial exemption and property VAT - including but not limited to residential/commercial property and Option to Tax.
Systems
As mentioned above you will be required to become familiar with the following during the course of your work: Sage, Xero, CCH Central and any similar software a client may use to maintain their accounting records.
Compliance
You are ACCA/ACA/CTA/ATT qualified or qualified by experience if still studying towards qualification, with extensive and relevant VAT experience.
