**Job summary**:
This is critical role in the Department Of State (DoS) security team. The incident coordinator is responsible for triaging all reported security breaches and incidents impacting DoS business units.

Using a range of resources at their disposal, the coordinator will draft and develop question sets and indicative lines of enquiry to aid those tasked with undertaking security investigations.

The coordinator is also responsible for disseminating a range of key risk & threat warnings and alerts to DoS business units and system owners.

The post holder will also provide the Principal/Deputy Security Advisor and the Senior Leadership Team with essential Management Information extracted from periodic analysis of security incident data, the results/outcomes of investigations to help identify new/emerging trends, patterns, profiles, hot-spots and potential risks and vulnerabilities.

This position is advertised at 37 hours per week.

**Job description**:
**Responsibilities**:

- Maintaining the effective operation of the Department of State (DoS) Security Incident Management team utilising the MOD's Security Incident Management database.
- Review and triage of all reported security breaches, incidents and intelligence submitted to DoS security team.
- Prioritisation of breaches and incidents in the alert queue focusing on critical and serious incidents.
- Drafting a comprehensive question set and lines of enquiry to assist those tasked with undertaking security investigations.
- Direct and task incidents to the appropriate DoS business unit.
- Escalate serious/critical incidents to Security Incident team manager
- Hasten business units for progress of security investigations in accordance with MOD security policy.
- Review and consider requests to close or dismiss incidents.
- Maintain close and effective working relationships with other MOD security incident management teams.
- Disseminate a range of critical warning, alerts and risk/threat information to DoS business units.
- Conduct periodic analysis of security incident data to provide key Management Information for DoS security team and Senior Leadership Team.
- Refer potential crimes to the Ministry of Defence or relevant Service Police.
- Refer intelligence to Defence Intelligence.
- Provide support to other pillars within the DoS security team.

**Person specification**:
We are looking for a committed, driven and proactive individual who takes pride in delivering quality outputs while working in an exciting and dynamic environment.

They should be capable of working using their own initiative without the need for supervision.

They should have keen analytical skills and have the ability to identify key trends, patterns and profiles from large data sets.

Be able to communicate in a clear, concise and convincing manner with the ability to tailor their approach and style to a diverse audience including senior military personnel, civil servants and Ministers.

Desirable

Anyone who is involved in operational delivery roles who has experience of triage, prioritisation tasks and responding to a range of security related breaches or incidents. These may include cyber, physical, personnel and information incidents. This may include, but not limited to a Police control/incident room or other similar environment.

Any formal UK recognised training or qualifications in any of the following; security incident coordination/management, incident response, risk assessment, ISO 27001, or NIST CSF

Experience of dealing with security incidents is desirable but it’s the ability to triage and follow up on incidents that is important
