Hitchin Town Centre Ranger

This role has responsibility for the day-to-day and smooth running of the town centre operationally, working with the Hitchin BID team, our partners and businesses. Responding to local business queries, this post has responsibility for a range of priorities and co-ordination, as well as ensuring the town centre is clean, safe and provides a quality experience for visitors, employees and businesses. You will provide full support, assistance and supervision on all day to day operational aspects of the Hitchin promotional initiatives, street activities and town centre events. The postholder will act as an ambassador for the town, delivering excellent customer service skills. We’re looking for a positive, proactive individual who is confident working with a wide range of people and keen to make a practical difference to the town centre.

**Response and Coordination**
- Deliver immediate improvements to the town centre environment through extensive daily patrols, which include cleansing duties such as street washing and graffiti and fly post removal
- Respond to a range of duties across the town centre including cleaning, general repairs, painting, town centre cleanliness and turf/weeds, pick up and dispose of rubbish found on paving/alleyways/riverside and other town centre areas.
- Regular inspections of street furniture, installations, cycle racks, paving, drainage, street lighting and report any defects to the relevant authority / person.
- Monitor, report and record any non-compliance issues relating to the trade waste and cardboard recycling scheme.
- Monitor street cleansing services to ensure contractors achieve contract standards.
- Maintain up to date knowledge of technical matters, legislation, licensing conditions and Council policies and procedures in relation to markets and street trading activities.

**Promotions, Events and Other Street Activities Support**
- Work with and support events and promotions manager
- Undertake general stewarding at events to include monitoring road closures, pitch locations and work with external contractors
- Update the towns social media and website on a regular basis
- Ensure all event traders comply with the code of practice and trading standards.
- Monitor the collection and removal of associated event and street activity waste to ensure it is disposed of in the correct and appropriate manner.
- Monitor, report and record any breach or failure to Health and Safety compliance in relation to street activities and events.
- Report any illegal trading to the relevant authority.

**Partner and Member Support**
- Act as an ambassador for the town centre in assisting and advising businesses and the public.
- Cover the ‘Front of House’ role as and when required
- Respond to members and partners enquiries in a timely way.
- Support the promotion and information-sharing of the company’s services and projects.

**General Duties, Administration and Reporting**
- Use the town centre link radios and appropriate tools/equipment.
- Perform risk assessments where necessary
- Improve administration processes by identifying inefficiencies and recommending solutions.
- Attend and contribute to team meetings.
- Collect and analyse data, prepare reports, generate schedules and track issues and follow up.
- Provide First Aid assistance when required.
- Carry out the responsibilities of the post with due regard to all the Company’s Policies and Procedures.
- Undertake any other duties consistent with the level and nature of the post.

- Ability to prepare clear and concise reports, updates and notes relating to the day to day operational activities.
- Ability to undertake physical duties such as putting up and taking down of gazebos.

**Desirable**:

- Knowledge of Hitchin town centre.
- Knowledge of the Local authority
- Knowledge of Business Improvement Districts
- Full and clean driving license.

**Salary**: £10.50 per hour
