Job Description Summary
Aegon is one of the world's leading providers of life insurance, pensions and asset management.
Our mission is to help people achieve a lifetime of financial security, and we’re investing in innovation that can make people’s finances work harder. From online technology that gives one-stop access to a universe of investment opportunity - to retirement products that make wealth planning simple, easy and fulfilling - we’re dedicated to getting people closer to their financial goals every day.
We know how perplexing the future can seem and how difficult it can be to make sense of the choices that lie ahead. This is why we rely on our actuaries. In such a changing world, actuaries are crucial in analysing past events, assessing present risks and forecasting the impact of tomorrow’s uncertain events. The contribution they make to the world of financial management can’t be overstated - without them, we would be making decisions in the dark.
**Job Description**:
Who we are looking for
We are looking for an experienced / part-qualified actuarial trainee to join our actuarial programme. This is a highly specialised profession, and the demands of these positions call for unique individuals.
You will have the following skills
- highly self-motivated, with the drive and stamina to act on your own initiative
- a team player with excellent communication skills
- someone who thrives on responsibility and challenge
- passionate about the personal fulfilment these opportunities bring
- able to analyse and interpret large amounts of complex data
- able to solve problems and find innovative solutions
What you will be responsible for
Actuaries are at the very heart of our business, and on this training programme you might find yourself working across key business areas. You could be involved in:
- assessing liabilities and profits
- designing or testing new products
- identifying new markets
- working on the technical and legislative side of financial reporting
This rotational system gives you the opportunity to build strong relationships across the business and further develop your skills - not to mention helping you construct a well-rounded picture of how our business operates.
You’ll benefit from the training and development opportunities you would expect from a leading global organisation. At the same time, we’re still of a size that allows individuals to stand out, which means we’ll listen to and respect your findings - and act on them.
It’s an exciting opportunity, but we can’t deny the amount of rigorous training you’ll have to undergo - and we don’t make any excuses for it. After all, it’s critical that we can rely on your advice. It takes an average of three to six years to be fully qualified, although this very much depends on the individual, as your degree may qualify you for some exam exemptions.
We’ll be there to support you every step of the way, with study leave which is flexible enough to be taken when you feel you need it. We pay for your course and exam fees and back these up with all your study materials and regular external tutorials.
You’ll also benefit from balancing real world situations with the academic. You’ll get your own Career Manager to oversee your development, plus regular salary increases in line with your performance and exam passes.
Education & Preferred Qualifications & knowledge
- A graduate in maths, statistics or a related discipline, at minimum 2:1 Honours level or equivalent.
- have proven experience in an actuarial role
- have exemptions from/have passed at least 6 IFoA Actuarial exams (excluding CB3)
How we will reward you
- Competitive Salary
- Non-contributory Pension between 8% and 12%
- Annual Reward Scheme
- Opportunity to buy additional holidays, starting at 25 days plus 9 statutory
- Private health care and life assurance with additional voluntary benefits available
- Subsidised on-site restaurant
The COVID-19 pandemic has meant that we have had to limit access to our offices. It is important that you live within a commutable distance to our office as we have a hybrid model in place - with colleagues splitting their time between office and home working.
