**About Us**
Here at West Sussex County Council (WSCC) we have a new opportunity for a Senior Registration Officer in our Ceremonies Team.
You will contribute to the provision of a high-quality civil registration service to the residents of West Sussex and the wider public. You will help ensure local community needs are met by performing duties in connection with the day-to-day administrationand registration of Marriages, Civil Partnerships and other Ceremonies.
West Sussex is a single unified registration district and there are 12 registration Service delivery points across the County which deliver birth, death and Notice appointments, some of these also incorporate ceremony rooms.

**Salary**:£30,095 to £32,798 per annum
**Working Pattern**:Full time and 1 in 5 Saturdays.
**Location**:Crawley
As Senior Registration Officer in the Ceremonies team you will provide day to day supervision and line management for a geographically based team of Sessional Registrars delivering ceremonies in our council ceremony rooms and at the external licensed venuesin the County.
You will also support the technical administration and bookings hub based in Crawley.
You will also continue to deliver notices and ceremonies and retain the key skills of a registration officer, as the role involves cover and training, thus retaining skills is paramount.
You'll also contribute to business and procedural reviews of service provision.
You will need to be able to work Saturdays as part of an agreed rota (1 in 5) for which an enhanced rate and time off is given.
**Experience and Skills**
In this role you will need a very high degree of motivation, commitment and flexibility to ensure that both statutory and non-statutory ceremonies are provided to the highest standard according to statute, council policy and the strategic aims of the service.
Experience of motivating and leading teams through change would be an advantage. It's a public facing role, so you'll also need to be able to demonstrate personal resilience and empathy.
The role predominantly is based working Monday to Friday however you will need to be able to work flexibly across weekends (approx. 1 in 5) and Bank Holidays to meet the needs of the service. You'll also need to be able to travel independently across thecounty to various locations, including to areas that may not be easily accessible by public transport.

Ability to work with other service professionals to share best practice, knowledge, and learning.
- Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to anticipate problems and resolve issues independently, planning solutions and make sound pragmatic decisions which will have an impact on the service over the medium term (several months). Ability to embracechange and have the flexibility to respond to the needs of the service.
- Excellent literacy and numeracy skills in order to understand statutory legislation, prepare and deliver all aspects of statutory and non-statutory services in all locations and maintain accounts.
- Effective people skills and the ability to provide direction and mentor other team members.
- Ability to contribute to the medium-term planning of the service, making effective judgements on a day-to-day basis in order to deliver an efficient and professional service.
**Qualifications and/or experience**:
- Experience of working in the registration service, or degree or equivalent qualification, demonstrating that level of applied knowledge in researching, analysing and evaluating arguments and information.
- Detailed and thorough knowledge of statutory legislation and responsibilities of the service.
- Expert specialist technical knowledge and understanding of all relevant areas of work including practical applied knowledge gained by 'on the job' experience.
- Relevant theoretical or organisational knowledge of systems, procedures and policies associated with operating a demanding and client focussed service.
- Political awareness when working with members/senior management.
