Directorate: Regeneration & Environment
Permanent, Full time, 37 hours per week.
This is a great opportunity to join Rotherham Borough Council’s Building Control Service as a Registered Building Inspector. We have developed an exceptional reputation throughout the construction community for our expertise as well as our professionalism and we are now looking for a Building Control Surveyor to further develop our ability to deliver these vital, high quality services.
If requested, you will join the Dangerous Structure rota to assist in the provision of an out of hours emergency service.
**Responsibilities**:
- The examination for compliance of appropriate Building Regulation Applications (including Full Plan, Regularisation, Reversion and Building Notices together with appropriate amendments) deposited under the Building Regulations and associated legislation as instructed and making recommendations to the Building Control Manager and Principal Building Control Officer.
- To work in a small team within an area of the Borough.
- To carry out efficient and regular Building Regulation inspections for all projects (including non-domestic) and to compile accurate records.
- To carry out efficient inspections and to report accurately on dangerous structures and, together with a Building Control Surveyor, advise on remedial measures to be undertaken.
- To maintain an awareness and understanding of legislation and legal precedents as they relate to building control issues.
**About The Team**
The Building Control service sits within the Planning & Regeneration Directorate - working closely with all our colleagues. It is also a team which proactively collaborates with a range of teams across the Council.
The Building Control team is responsible for providing a wide range of services including building regulation compliance through plan assessment and site inspection, response to dangerous structures, demolition notice administration, and enforcement.
Your skills:
- Ability to clearly communicate and provide advice on technical Building Control matters.
- Ability to read and interpret drawings, plans and technical information.
- Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team.
- Ability to engage positively with customers and provide a high standard of customer service.
**Essential qualifications/skills**
Successful completion of BSC (Hons) in Building Control, Building Surveying, Structural Engineering or Civil Engineering. Working at or towards the BSR Class 2 non-domestic Surveyor level.
