Night Porter- Part Time/ Full Time Positions

**JOB DESCRIPTION**

**Job Title: Night Porter**

Responsible To: Operations Manager’s, Duty Manager’s

**OVERALL PURPOSE OF JOB**

To maintain and uphold the security of the Hotel during the night.
To uphold exceptionally high standards of cleanliness in the public areas.
To provide excellent standards and quality of customer service at all times.

**MAIN DUTIES**

1. Hoover all ground floor lounges and corridors, Clean and set fire place and ensure that coal and log stores are full on a daily basis. Fire should be lit early morning as required.

2. Mop flag stones in lounge as required, (twice weekly minimum)

3. Clean and polish tables in lounge and replenish clean ashtrays.

4. Clean and fully service gentleman’s toilet area.

5. To perform general cleaning and occasional duties as directed by the Duty/Operations Manager.

6. To compile a nightly newspaper order from reception information sheet, then order, sort and deliver these to the guests bedrooms.

7. Log and co-ordinate early morning calls for guests.

8. In the absence of a member of Bar Staff, serve drinks from the bar to RESIDENTS ONLY, to the required standard.

9. Prepare dishes from the Night Room Service Menu to the required standard in the absence of Kitchen Staff.

10. To conduct a minimum of three complete clock rounds of the hotel, during which ALL external doors are to be checked for security.

11. All problems, maintenance requirements, security problems during clock rounds should be brought to the attention of the Hotel Engineer/Duty Manager.

12. To be conversant with Fire Evacuation procedures and specifically the Night Porter responsibilities in the event of the fire alarm sounding.

13. In the event of an emergency situation arising, to contact the Duty Manager immediately.

14. Hand all lost property found, to the early Receptionist, with details of exactly when and where it was found.

15. Set the Dalton Suite and Bowland Suite for meetings to be held the next day in accordance with the Duty Managers Function File.

16. Assist guests with luggage as and when required.

17. In the absence of a Receptionist, to manually check in arriving guests in accordance with the required standards.

18. Manually Check in ‘chance’ guests, with no prior reservation, ensuring that the correct room rate is quoted, pre-payment for the accommodation is taken and the correct check-in procedure is followed, with all monies being passed to the early Receptionist.

19. Check out guests, departing prior to the arrival of the early Receptionist, ensuring that payment is taken, asking for an imprint of their credit card where appropriate and that a receipt showing the amount owing is given to the guest.

20. To be aware of Service Recovery Procedures and act upon these accordingly.

21. Adherence to all Hotel and Government regulations with special regard to:
a. Hygiene
b. Fire Precautions Act 1971
c. Fire Plans and Evacuation Procedures
d. Health and Safety at Work Act 1974
e. Health Rules
f. Company Rules

22. To communicate respectively with colleagues, other staff and guests at all times.

23. To ensure high personal standards by presenting yourself correctly in a clean & tidy uniform in accordance with the Dress & Appearance Policy.

24. Any other reasonable request by a member of the Hotel Management Team.

**Salary**: Up to £9.79 per hour
