Mydoc - Registrar - Foot & Ankle Fellow in Trauma

In Mid Yorkshire Hospitals, we perform approximately 1,200 hip and knee replacement surgeries every year and approximately 110 revision hip and knee replacement surgeries. There is opportunity for the arthroplasty fellow to train in performing primary hip and knee replacements whilst at the same time getting exposure to complex reconstructive procedures in hip and knee revisions. The post is not recognised for training by the Postgraduate Dean, although the duties and shift pattern are exactly the same as the training posts and study leave will be encouraged on an equivalent basis to that which applies to the educationally approved SHOs. The post will be on a 1:12 on-call commitment.

These posts will be part of our cross site senior trainee rota which is compliant with working time regulations and the 2016 junior doctors contract, averaging 48 hours per week. The fellow will have opportunity to work with the four foot & ankle consultants and contribute to the activities of the wider team. Including MDT activity, regional ankle arthroplasty network, diabetic foot clinic, neuropathic foot clinic, Foot & Ankle soft tissue (FAST) service, and subspeciality fracture clinics.
The fellow will be expected to contribute to the research interests of the department and develop their own research/audit project with in the foot and ankle unit for presentation/publication. The surgical case mix includes all aspects of forefoot, midfoot, and hindfoot reconstruction. Soft tissue, sports, and chondral repair techniques. Arthroscopic and mínimally invasive techniques.
Ankle arthroplasty. It is expected the fellow will keep a surgical logbook and undertake assessments of progress. The above timetable is indicative only, with opportunity for independent operating if appropriate progress and skill set demonstrated. Other main duties of the post will include: Responsibility for the management of patients with acute and chronic conditions including complex cases.
Referral of patients to other specialities as appropriate Out-patient activities/clinics Involvement in specialty and cross-specialty multi-disciplinary teams and meetings Involvement in relevant administration duties Teaching and supervision of junior medical staff and other clinicians as appropriate Involvement in audit and clinical governance including service improvement activities The above list is not intended to be exhaustive, and it is likely duties may be altered from time to time in the light of changing circumstances and after discussion with the post holder.
