The Acute Medical Department at Mid Yorkshire NHS Teaching Trust has one of the busiest SDECs in the country. You will work with a dynamic team of acute medical consultants who will be keen to share their expertise and are able to help with FAMUS accreditation. There are lots of innovative pathways and opportunities for quality improvement work to enhance the applicants CV and help them get on to the national training pathway. The Medical Division at Mid Yorkshire NHS Teaching Trust provides Acute care across the range of medical specialities in a large modern purpose-built hospital in Wakefield, which includes a large Acute Assessment Unit, Acute Elderly Assessment Unit, Coronary Care and Acute (Respiratory) Care Unit.
We also provide care for Acute Elderly Admissions and step-down care for patients in a less acute phase of their admission at Dewsbury & District Hospital. Successful applicants will support the Acute Medicine team in the management of their in-patient workload, along with supporting the trusts Same Day Emergency Care unit (SDEC). You will also participate in the Trust-wide out-of-hours cover across both hospital sites. The Service Role From a clinical perspective these posts will participate in the cross site senior trainee rota.
The senior trainee rota is compliant with the 2016 junior doctor contract averaging 48 hours per week. Duties will be based primarily on our Pinderfields Hospital site although all our medical staff are involved in delivering care to patients on all our sites. The post holder will be expected to take part in the assessment and management of acute patients admitted to the Acute Assessment Unit. This will include taking part in the daily assessment of patients, initiating management plans for these patients and performing procedures (under supervision if needed).
**Other duties included within the role will be**: Providing a 'bridge' between senior clinical leaders, managers and the wider trainee workforce to improve communication, engagement and morale. Service improvement, for example redesigning pathways, implementing new technology and establishing new services to improve flow and outcomes for patients. Improving the quality of clinical and non-clinical education and training activities and supporting/mentoring other trainees to engage in quality improvement. Working across teams and boundaries to engage stakeholders in quality improvement and influence change.
Involvement in and exposure to senior management and organisational decision making. Involvement in relevant administration duties Teaching and supervision of junior medical staff and other clinicians as appropriate Active involvement in audit and clinical governance including service improvement activities
