**About this opportunity and L3Harris UK**

From 11 UK sites, our team of nearly 1,000 people delivers unique capabilities across space, air, land, sea and cyber for military, security and commercial customers across the UK and worldwide.

L3Harris in Farnborough are the proud designer, supplier and maintainer of the 50,000 tactical radios in the Bowman tactical C4I system in service with the UK Armed Forces and are working to define and deliver the next generation system, Morpheus.

This is an opportunity for an embedded software engineer who can contribute to the full life-cycle of tactical radio products and systems from research and development through to the sustainment and enhancement of existing in-service products.

They will work within a small engineering team alongside software engineers and other engineering disciplines. Once familiar with the tools and processes, they will be able to perform the role with general oversight from Engineering Management.

The successful individual will have good written and verbal communication skills and be able to discuss complex technical matters with other engineers and non-technical staff to develop appropriate solutions.

**What the role will involve**

The responsibilities of your role will include the following:

- Maintenance of the software for existing tactical radio products (including the development of new features and enhancements)
- Design and implementation of new real-time embedded software for communications systems (e.g. waveforms)
- Developing software requirements and architectures from higher level system requirements
- Producing software documentation
- Maintaining software development environments

**What you’ll bring**

The role requires the following experience and skills:

- Bachelor or Master's degree in software engineering or related discipline
- At least 5-years relevant engineering experience
- Ability to work in a multi-disciplinary engineering team (especially with systems, software and electronics engineers)
- Understanding of the design lifecycle including requirements, design methodologies and configuration management
- Knowledge and experience in one or more of the following areas is desirable;
- Object-oriented design and implementation
- Programming languages (e.g. C/C++, C#) as well as scripting languages (e.g. Python)
- Real-time embedded systems, Digital Signal Processing (DSP) and related technologies
- Radio communications, Software Defined Radio (SDR) and data networking
- MBSE, UML and creating designs with UML tools
- Engineering tools such as MATLAB, IBM Rhapsody, DOORS
