**Job Title**:Care Assistant
**Responsible To**:Senior staff and management
**Salary**: £10 per hour
**Contract hours**:Part-Time position (21 hours)
**Role Overview**:The Care Assistant is part of a support team responsible for the provision of a holistic person centred service to our residents, which encourages and promotes the core values of independence, respect, choice, dignity, privacy and fulfilment.

- Attend to the direct care needs of residents in accordance with their care plan.
- Treat those with whom they come into contact with in a courteous and respectful manner
- Provide emotional and spiritual support to residents in accordance to their needs.
- Contribute to the development and implementation of a care plan, in a way that promotes choice and independence and respects the person’s right to independence, dignity, privacy and fulfilment.
- Complete all tasks allocated efficiently.
- Run shifts in the absence of a senior staff member when required. This will include the administration of medication, to meet the ever changing needs of the business.
- Maintain high standards of personal accountability.
- Participate in daily handover reports using both verbal and written records to ensure good communication is maintained within the team.
- To co-operate with the duty Rota schedule so as to ensure adequate staffing, and be flexible at times due to the changing needs of the home and the residents.
- To work with other members of staff to treat others with respect to ensure that harmonious relationships are maintained within the team.
- To be professional and respectful when communicating with others in house and when taking phone calls.
**Personal and Physical Care**
- Assist and support the residents with personal care tasks depending on their needs. These tasks are carried out at a level agreed with the resident and identified in their personal care plan and may include assistance with daily tasks.
- Assist and support residents in making choices from the food menu and providing encouragement and support at mealtimes.
- Serve meals and assist residents at mealtimes if required, and clear up after every meal.
- Prepare light meals and snacks for residents as required.
- Assist with care of residents clothing and laundry.
- Answer emergency bells, front door and telephone as required.
- Develop and maintain good relationships with the residents and their family/friends.
- To read, write and sign reports in case notes for the residents under their care.
**Activities and Community Involvement**
- Encourage residents to participate in a program of recreational and social activities.
- Assist and support residents in maintaining links with their friends and other groups in the community.
- Seek medical advice when required.
- Accompany residents on outings including hospital appointments.
**You must**:
- Remain awake throughout night shifts and complete regular checks of residents to maintain their health and safety.
- Comply with the Home’s Smoke Free Policy.
- Carry out their duties and responsibilities in compliance with the Health and Safety Policies and Statutory Regulations.
- Maintain a clean and safe environment
- Identify risks whilst working to create an enabling environment for the residents where they can be encouraged to achieve maximum independence.
- Comply with the Code of Confidentiality and the Data Protection Act.
**Training**
- Take part in formal supervision.
- Undertake training identified to ensure care staff are fully equipped to carry out the duties of the post, promote personal development and ensure a quality service is provided to residents.
**Essential qualifications**
- Previous care experience in a residential home.
- Flexible to work shift patterns including night shifts.
- Good interpersonal skills.
- Ability to communicate effectively at all levels.
- Work well in a team.
- Ability to manage pressure, conflicting demands and prioritise tasks.
- Ensure relevant qualifications are up to date.
- Level 2 Health and Social Care QCF (or equivalent)
- Satisfactory police check and check against the POVA List (where applicable)
**Desirable qualifications**:
- Experience / Qualification in the Safe Handling of Medicines / Medication Training.
