**Important Functional Relationships**:Internal: Estates Manager and Central Team, Premises Team, Heads of School, Pupils, Staff
External: Parents, contractors, other Schools and Colleges, suppliers of goods and services, visitors, cleaning contractors.
**Main Purpose of Job**:
To maintain a high standard of security, cleanliness, safety and general maintenance of school buildings, grounds, and facilities for all school sites, to provide practical support in arrangements for meetings/events and to assist in maintaining the security of the school. To meet and liaise with contractors on site to ensure works are carried out correctly.
**Main Duties and Responsibilities**:
- To report any major defects in building, equipment and security systems observed in the course of duties and to liaise with approved contractors. To liaise closely with the school admin teams and central team.
- To assist in the collection and disposal of all refuse and ensure the school buildings and grounds are free of litter and graffiti. To ensure, in winter especially, that access roads, pavements, steps and playgrounds are always safe for use where possible
- To manage and operate systems of staffing cover for lettings and other community usage of the premises, to advise on the security of buildings during periods of lettings and to ensure appropriate heating arrangements are made to meet lettings demands.
- To undertake regular inspections of the site and report significant defects and remedy minor defects.
- To take deliveries of stores, materials, and other goods and to undertake porterage duties as required.
- To undertake occasional gardening duties.
- To undertake routine maintenance and minor refurbishment of premises, fixtures, and fittings, as necessary.
- To maintain the overall security arrangements of the premises including ensuring that staff are aware of the procedures on security and the use of alarm systems, that there is an appropriate system of key holding management, that periodic reviews of site security are conducted, and that appropriate progress action is followed through.
- To ensure general cleanliness and tidiness of all hard surface areas of the school, including drains.
- To maintain records and complete paperwork as required to maintain compliance throughout the Trust.
- To attend site meetings as required.
- To respond to emergencies, when necessary, in respect of accident, failure, break in, or weather.
- To maintain confidentiality of information acquired while undertaking duties for the department.
- To be responsible for your own continuing self-development, undertaking training as appropriate.
- To work across the Trust providing support to other schools as directed by the estate’s manager.
- To undertake other duties appropriate to the grading of the post as required.
