**About the Role**
Northumbrian Water operate 900 hundred waste water pumping stations and over 150 waste water treatment works in the North East. As a Wastewater Operator you will be responsible for the operation of wastewater treatment works and pumping stations across County Durham / Consett, Stanley, Esh winning. You’ll join a company that is dedicated to treating wastewater 24/7 in ways that protects the environment and improves the quality of our coastlines.
As a Wastewater Operator, you’ll play a vital frontline role in protecting our environment and keeping our treatment processes running smoothly. Every day will bring a mix of hands-on tasks that require attention to detail and a proactive approach. From collecting and analysing process samples to identifying and resolving faults, you’ll be key to ensuring everything operates at peak efficiency.
You’ll also be involved in monitoring the work of contractors, carrying out routine maintenance, and keeping process units clean and functional. Whether you’re fine-tuning pumps or supporting our health and safety culture, your work will make a direct impact on the quality of our operations and the communities we serve.
You’ll be working closing with our maintenance, asset management and capital partners to ensure our sites are in the best possible condition. You’ll join an experienced team who really know their stuff and can support your transition into the role. Your role will be vital to meeting our environmental commitments and keeping operations safe.
**About You**
We’re looking for someone who is proactive, organised and able to work on their own. Being detail-focused is key here: nothing should slip past you, whether it’s a recording issue or a safety measure that needs attention.
Don’t worry if you’re new to wastewater treatment, we’ll train you in all the technical skills you’ll need to do a great job. The important stuff is that you’re a great team player with a positive ‘can do’ attitude and ready to learn. If that’s you, we want to hear from you.
Good communication skills along with a practical, hands on approach and a knack for problem-solving would be great.
A full UK driving license is essential for traveling between sites whilst at work—and yes, we’ll provide the van.
You’ll need to be able to use different technologies and Apps, so if you‘re a bit of a techie this could be for you. If you’ve got an eye for trends and love tackling problems hands-on, you’ll be right at home with us. Experience with following processes and using equipment? Perfect.
