**Contract Basis **37hrs p/w. Term Time plus 5 INSET days SCP 11-15 (£22,129 - £23,953) pro rata.
Actual Salary (£18,949 - £20,510)

**Overall Purpose of the Role**:
To be responsible for supporting the Cover Manager in covering classes in the event of teacher absence.

**Key Duties**:

- To supervise classes in the event of teacher absence, including managing pupil behaviour, motivating pupils to complete tasks that enable them to be fully engaged and assisting pupils in relevant activities in line with the school’s policies and procedures.
- To assist with break and lunchtime supervision and carry out exam invigilation for internal and external exams including scribing and reading for students in examinations.
- Supervise classes and tutor groups in the case of teacher absence - Ensure work set by the absent teacher or his/her Head of Department.is given to pupils and fully explained.
- Ensure all work completed is returned to the relevant teacher and that any appropriate feedback is given using school procedures.
- Support pupils in their learning during lessons covered.
- Assist pupils in the development of organisational and independent learning skills, and of confidence, self-esteem, interpersonal skills and independence.
- Take responsibility for managing behaviour within the classroom, and around the school site.
- Supervise and guide Teaching Assistants and other classroom support during lessons covered where relevant.
- Attend CPD sessions and possibly coaching sessions.
- Refer disciplinary or other pupil issues to Heads of Subject and/or pastoral staff as appropriate.
- Provide supervisory and/or administrative assistance relating to extra-curricular activities.
- Support extra-curricular activities, educational visits and cross curricular initiatives
- Safeguard the health, safety and welfare of all students.
- Refer any safeguarding issues immediately to the Designated Safeguarding Lead.
- Fulfill any other duties as requested by the Principal.

**On occasion, the post holder may be required to**:
Prepare learning materials for groups covered during short-term absence; supervise lessons for specific groups on a longer-term basis, as directed by the school leadership; undertake the differentiation of learning materials both before and during lessons; report to class teachers and Subject Leaders on the progress of students where there is any sustained involvement; provide administrative, clerical and other support to teaching departments.

The post holder will be required to have a valid Enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) certificate and be re-checked every 3 years as per Darwen Vale High School procedures
