Senior Claims and Inquests Manager
**Salary**: £39,956 to £45,708 per annum - depending on experience.
Location: Exeter but will be required to travel to various sites across the Southwest
Acorn is working with a leading NHS trust in Exeter to find a Senior Claims and Inquests Manager who will support the Senior Claims and Inquests Manager in managing the Trust's Claims/Inquests function to minimise financial, reputational and other risks tothe Trust.
You will be responsible provide specialist advice and guidance on all aspects of claims, inquests, and litigation. Working with NHS Resolution in the instruction of solicitors, barristers and independent experts
Main duties:
- Promote the prevention of claims and minimise associated costs to the Trust by identifying the appropriate support, information, training and development that will enable learning.
- Assess all new potential and actual claims by investigating and interpreting a range of facts to identify whether any breach of duty may have occurred and conduct an assessment of liability.
- Ensure that contentious and potentially contentious inquests are managed effectively to reduce risks to the Trust, including associated claims and adverse publicity.
- Represent the Trust at Pre-inquest Review Meetings and inquest hearings. With cases involving highly sensitive and complex clinical situations, a significant level of interpersonal skill is required to support understanding across all parties.
- Prepare accurate and detailed responses to Prevention for Future Deaths reports received by the Coroner.
- Responsibility for the production of reports for the Trust Board of Directors and appropriate Committees and Groups on claims and inquests.
- Collating, analysing and interpreting claims and inquest qualitative and quantitative data and presenting it in an appropriate form.
- Provide expert advice and guidance on legal issues, and, where appropriate, liaise with the NHSR and Trust solicitors where further advice or clarification is required, or instruct them as appropriate.
Essential Experience Required:
- Qualified Solicitor, Barrister or Chartered Legal Executive entitled to practice in England and Wales.
- Significant experience in a similar or relevant role and/or post-qualification experience working as a solicitor, barrister or legal executive.
- Able to investigate, interpret and analyse information and present this in a variety of formats and reports.
- Able to travel to other sites within Trust's geographical area.
Desirable Experience:
- NHS or local government experience
- Designing and delivering training courses
- Valid practising certificate or equivalent
