Associate Director of Operations, Acute Mental

We are recruiting to an outstanding operational leader for one of West London NHS Trust’s functional service lines Acute Mental Health

The role has become available following the promotion of the current post holder to the Clinical Director role in the service line.

The post holder will operationally manage the services in the acute Mental Health Service Line, and will work alongside the Associate and Clinical Directors of our other service lines, supported by the Deputy Directors and professional leads.

The six service lines in West London NHS Trust’s Local Services (plus two more in Forensic and High Secure Services) are based on pathways of care. The service line structure has been established for seven years in West London and, reporting to the Executive Director of Local Services, and the Clinical Directors work together to deliver co-ordinated care for the populations of Ealing, Hounslow and Hammersmith & Fulham and deliver some specialised services over a broader geography.

Applicants will have a professional clinical qualification, must have extensive experience of managing health and social care staff across a range of inpatient and community settings, with a wide range of knowledge base and practical experience of how to maximise peoples’ skills. The budget is £35m, therefore sound financial skills are essential.

**The principal services provided within the service lines are**:

- Inpatient acute mental health wards primarily in Hammersmith and Fulham and Hounslow
- Inpatient male Intensive Care Unit
- Health-based places of safety (136 ) suites
- The Trust 24/7 bed management/flow team
- Crisis Assessment and Treatment Teams in each borough - working towards CORE Fidelity - offering gatekeeping and admission avoidance interventions and associated staff supporting early discharge
- The Trust wide Single Point of Access/Crisis Line, which acts as a central point of referral and a service user support line
- developing interfaces with 111 and 999
- Crisis Alternatives and step down beds delivered in conjunction with third sector including MIND Safe Spaces and an Ealing recovery House delivered in partnership with Rethink currently, moving to Richmond Fellowship
- An ECT suite and a pilot around neuromodulation service delivering TMS and other novel therapies

The post holder will also be expected to work externally in collaboration with partner organisations across the North West London Integrated Care System.

Strategic and Operational management AMHS
- The portfolio includes the operational management all teams in Acute Mental Health Service Line.
- Operational management includes the day to day to day management of caseloads/wards within safe parameters.
- This will ensure that all staff in the service line receive supervision to include professional supervision, personal development plans and regular reflective practice
- The post holder will work with the Deputy Director of Nursing to ensure that all aspects of high standard high patient care are adhered to. For example the implementation of the co-produced standards that are already developed will be a key result area of this post.
- The post holder will work with the Deputy Director of Nursing to ensure that a similar piece of work will take place from initiation to completion in the CAT Teams.
- The delivery of implementation of the CQC action plan across the service line
- The post holder will put in place performance management systems to ensure that all aspects of performance both clinical and operational are aligned to the expectations outlined within the yearly strategic objectives. This will include current business as usual performance objectives as well as those detailed
- The portfolio includes the need for ‘fit for purpose’ estates. The post holder will work with estates and security colleagues to ensure that environments are safe and do not represent risks to either patients or staff. That business processes are followed in relation to bidding for maintenance/ and/or new capital work. The post holder will work with clinical and other colleagues to ensure that environments are maximised for therapeutic potential
- The post holder will work with all staff and relevant estate colleagues to ensure all aspects of Fire management are delivered.

Financial and Performance Management
- The postholder is responsible for the financial management of the Service Line. The postholder will be responsible for putting in place systems and controls where there are areas of overspend, to assure that the principle of value for money in the context of safe manag
