An exciting opportunity has arisen to join The Christie Teenage and Young Adult Outreach teambased at Preston Hospital.

We are looking for an enthusiastic and motivated individual to join a team dedicated to improving the lives of Teenagers and Young Adults (TYA) with cancer. The Outreach Youth Support Coordinator (YSC) will work with a wide range of Multi-Disciplinary Team (MDT) colleagues to ensure all TYA patients (aged 16-25) receive age appropriate care, high quality social and emotional support regardless of where they are treated across South Cumbria, Lancashire and North Manchester.

This role will work as part of the Teenage & Young Adult Outreach Team based at Preston hospital. The role will work closely with both YSC colleagues, other staff across designated hospitals and The Christie to provide co-ordinated support for young people whilst they are having treatment for cancer and up to 2 years after the completion of treatment.

To be successful in this role, you will be required to have a diploma or degree in a relevant qualification such as youth work, psychology, social sciences or play specialism and you will need to be able to demonstrate extensive experience of working with young people.

Working closely with the multi-disciplinary team, you will plan, develop and deliver programmes for young people which will meet their needs and help to support them. You will facilitate activities to bring young people together in the local community and across the North West and will provide 1:1 support for young people where needed.

An ability to work autonomously and be proactive is essential. Empathy, sensitivity and a sense of humour are also some of the key attributes you will bring to this role. The post holder will be expected to work flexibly to meet needs of the service. Some evening and weekend work will be involved and the post holder must be able to drive, have their own car (mileage is paid for travel due to work) and travel across the region on a regular basis.

Please note that this post is being advertised as a 12-month fixed term opportunity. The intention is that this post will be funded on an ongoing basis (12 month rolling contract) however, funding cannot be confirmed at this stage and no guarantee can be made that the post will be renewed for future years.
- You will be based at Preston hospital and will work across South Cumbria, Lancashire & North of Greater Manchester designated hospitals, ensuring all patients receive age appropriate, high quality social and emotional support.
- You will work as part of the Teenage and Young Adult (TYA) team to provide TYA support services for 16-25 year olds who have a cancer diagnosis.
- To work with the Principal Treatment Centre (PTC) based Youth Support Coordinator (YSC) team to ensure all young people having treatment as outpatients at the PTC are fully informed about, and have access to, age appropriate social and therapeutic activities.
- Based at Preston hospital, you will travel across the region to provide advice and support for young people at various hospitals and at home.
- To provide and lead, alongside the established YSC service, a wide range of appropriate recreational activities to enable cognitive, social and emotional adjustment and development throughout the cancer trajectory
- To participate in the multi-disciplinary team using specific skills to contribute to the care and understanding of the young people and their families and carers
- At all times to promote the philosophy of Teenage Cancer Trust.
