Immigration detention plays a vital role in maintaining effective immigration control and securing the UK’s borders. IRSD is responsible for managing and delivering immigration detention facilities and detained escorting within the UK, with immigration detention a key element of the Government’s immigration strategy, helping to perform the function of removing those not entitled to be in the UK.
Six immigration removal centres (IRCs), one pre-departure accommodation (PDA) for families, and a number of residential short-term holding facilities are provided through contracts which include the provision of security operations, management, and maintenance services. Our detention facilities provide a humane, safe, and secure environment, whilst the Home Office considers their case pending resolution and subsequent removal/deportation from the UK.
This is a very exciting opportunity to work in a fast paced, high profile and varied role. Detainee Escorting Population Management Unit (DEPMU) Operations priorities on a daily basis across escorting and population management can range from planning future activity, initial intake across UK from small boats, reporting centres and other locations; movements and management of those in HMPs, positioning for removal (scheduled and charters) and numerous other case progression and behavioural management movements, each requiring consideration and all together, requiring comprehensive logístical planning internally and with our multiple internal and external partners.
**Responsibilities**
- Working as part of a daily duty operations team, working collaboratively and positively to provide our services in the high volume 24/7-time critical environment of DEPMU operations, generating movement orders in an efficient and timely manner and completing dairy actions promptly and accurately.
- Assisting with the process of fully utilising bed space by collating bed count returns and daily MI of bed usage and allocating detained individuals to the most appropriate IRC in terms of risk, welfare, individual and operational needs.
- Achieving maximum accuracy in entries required on BRM and Atlas databases.
- Actioning detention and movement requests from Foreign National Offender Removal Command, National Returns Command, Immigration Compliance and Enforcement & Border Force immediately on receipt. Highlight to desk managers where transfers are required for interview schemes and other appointments.
- Setting and completing diary actions such as cross-checking future removals and confirming removals have occurred, notifying HMPPS of movements, checking HMPPS adjudications & checks prior to movements to court.
- Monitoring incoming calls to ensure that they are answered promptly and in accordance with our professional standards.
- Putting forward ideas which lead to operational performance improvement, cost savings or better services for customers.
- Actively participating in activity delivery following the annual Civil Service People Survey and follow up local sessions, in an effort to improve our unit and deliver continued success.
