Detailed job description and main responsibilities Education The applicant will be encouraged to attend teaching and Study leave for appropriate courses and exams will be considered on an individual basis in line with Trust policy. There is full access to the library, up-to-date online resource and online journals with an extended Athens account specific to Clatterbridge Cancer Centre. Research Clatterbridge Cancer Centre hosts the Merseyside and Cheshire Research Network which supports a significant portfolio of clinical trials. In addition to this there are long standing links with the University of Liverpool.

This has resulted in Clatterbridge being a research focused organisation at the forefront of cancer care offering significant opportunities to our Clinical Fellows. Whilst this is not a research-based job, the successful applicant would have many opportunities to come in contact with patients participating in clinical trials research. Other Opportunities There are excellent opportunities to participate in peer teaching and undergraduate education within this post, with all undergraduate medical students from the University of Liverpool attending a one-week placement at the Clatterbridge Cancer Centre within their fourth year. For those interested in developing their education portfolio, there are frequent opportunities to teach and receive learner feedback and to receive assessments and feedback on your teaching skills from a wealth of specialty registrars and consultants with educational background and interests.

There are plentiful audit and quality improvement opportunities at The Clatterbridge Cancer Centre with a strong focus on safety and quality of care and improving the patient experience. Applicants would be able to access training on quality improvement methodology and be supported in leading a project which meets both their interests and the wider trust agenda. There is an opportunity to present all audit and quality improvement work and submit such work for local awards. In addition, applicants completing good quality projects will be encouraged and supported to submit abstracts for conferences, posters and publication.

Applicants wishing to gain experience in management will be supported to participate in a number of activities which support the Trusts clinical governance agenda. These may include: o Attending management meetings to gain experience of the Trusts structures and processes o Receiving training in and undertaking structured judgement reviews of inpatient deaths under consultant supervision and presenting learning points at the mortality review meeting o Learning about root cause analyses and participating in the process of investigating errors and upholding a culture of continuous learning from incidents o Learning about complaints management processes o Constructing and updating clinical policies to ensure compliance with national and regional strategies. The post is whole time. The The basic working week will be from 9am
- 5pm Monday to Friday.

There is a weekend only on-call commitment in Haematology. This is Saturday and Sunday (9-5pm) on an approximate 1:5 basis. The on-call is supported by resident Haematology registrars and consultants.
