- North West Route, covering Manchester, Liverpool, Lancashire and Cumbria.
- Central Route, covering the West Midlands and Chiltern areas.
- West Coast South Route, covering the south of Crewe to London Euston.

You’ll join a cohort of trainees in the Works Delivery Buildings team where you will be supported by a dedicated trainer and experienced team of Surveyors.

We are currently looking for Surveyors in the South East, Watford and London Euston areas.

The purpose of this role is to undertake annual property examinations and report on the condition of Network Rail building assets, including stations, depots and critical lineside buildings to the Principal Route Engineer to enable development of robust asset management strategies and ongoing maintenance and renewal plans in line with safety priorities and budget allocation.

Network Rail is one of the largest land and property owners in the country and is responsible for the maintenance of over 3,000 buildings within the NW&C territory alone.

You’ll join a cohort of trainees in the Works Delivery Buildings team where you will be supported by a dedicated trainer and experienced team of Surveyors.

**About the role (External)**:
As a Building Surveyor, your role will consist of various tasks including:
1. Delivering a defined asset condition examination work bank, aligning with statutory compliance requirements, ensuring examinations are completed to prescribed deadlines and relevant company standards.

2. Actively contributing to the development of vigorous examination programmes and regularly reporting to the Works Delivery Manager on progress against the programmes.

3. Contributing to Development of examination strategies for individual work banks and providing written delivery plans for detailed examinations.

4. Reporting asset conditions via Network Rail’s proprietary asset management system, ensuring all asset examination information is uploaded and updated as required.

5. Highlight urgent defects, key risk areas and defect trends found back to Asset Engineer.

6. Attend and undertake emergency inspections of assets where required following incidents or reported faults.

7. Undertaking all required training and continued professional development to ensure continued compliance with our standards and rail specific competencies, including personal track safety.

8. Following all Network Rail policies, processes and standards and completing all mandatory periodic reports and checklist documentation.

9. Working nights and weekends when necessary.

10. Occasional working away from home as required by the business.

**In order to be successful in this role, we would like you to have/to be**:

- Educated to HNC / HND level or equivalent in Building Studies
- Experience in surveying asset property portfolios.
- Computer-literate, including knowledge of Microsoft programmes including Word and Excel.
- Strong communication skills.
- Full Driving Licence.

**We would also like but it isn’t crucial to have/to be**:

- Experience of surveying property within the public sector transport environment or similar.
- Experience in property asset management & data collection systems (Atrium/OPAS and SDE).
- Educated to Degree level.
- Knowledge/use of AutoCAD.
- Member of Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors or equivalent (CIOB).
