**Job description**:
The Associate User Researcher is responsible for supporting HSE to deliver Digital and Technology services to it’s users and stakeholders that are user centric, insight driven and support a coherent, consistent and compelling end-to-end experience.
We are driving innovation and transforming our technology to deliver our vision, and you will play a key part in defining, designing, building and implementing a range of new Digital and Technology services. You will work within multi-skilled teams helping to capture user needs in order to inform the design of accessible public and internal services that are simple enough for everyone to use and that work across multiple channels, devices, browsers and platforms.
**Person specification**:
**Planning and undertaking research**
- Assist with user research in the planning, design and research activities to support the design, development and continuous improvement of HSE services.
- Assist with engaging the full range of user groups, including currently hard to reach groups.
- Assist with user research activities from recruiting participants, preparing discussion guides, note taking and moderating research sessions.
- Work with colleagues to analyse research data and synthesise clear and actionable findings.
- Assist user researchers to share findings to help the team develop a deep understanding of users and their needs - including presentations at show and tells, designing and maintaining research outputs and other insight sharing materials.
- Assist the user researchers to source and procure participants and facilities to conduct user research activities.
- Contribute to the wider user research community of practice.
**Ensuring best practice**
- Advocate for user research and more widely user centred design.
- Support user research to be conducted in a legal and ethical way, aligning to government good practice (e.g., support in obtaining consents), and ensuring that research findings are stored and managed appropriately (e.g., support in complying with GDPR).
- Have some experience and understanding of user-centred service design and delivery practices.
- Have understanding and experience of basic techniques for analysis of research data and synthesis of findings.
- Awareness of GDS best practice in ways of working, and act as an ambassador for user research, raising awareness and understanding of user centred design.
- Have awareness of the diversity of users of government services and the need to make government services usable and accessible for everyone.
- Understanding users’ needs with regards to their social and technological context when using government services.
- Foster a culture of team involvement in user research, team analysis, design rationale and decision making based on user needs.
- Engagement with the user research community across government.
- Work with researchers to engage stakeholders to develop and communicate user research principles, guidelines and best practice.
**Analysing and sharing findings**
