Salary range: STCAT LL4 £20.903 - £22,627

Full Time, 37 hours per week

St Thomas Catholic Academies Trust is a family of 14 Catholic schools (increasing to 20) based in the South of the Diocese of Northampton located in Luton, Central Bedfordshire, Buckinghamshire and Slough. The role will be working across one or more of our Luton Schools.

The role is varied and no two days are the same, the purpose of the post is to support the efficient operation of school buildings this includes Keyholding and managing the security of the building, ensuring the building is safe and clean for our pupils, DIY/Handyperson tasks such as decorating, carpentry, basic plumbing tasks, basic electrical tasks.

We are a trust of 14 Catholic Schools which is growing and this role is required to support one or more of our Luton family of schools, currently there are 5 school in the Luton and Central Bedfordshire area of which one is Secondary and 4 are Primary schools. This role is important to us as without the people who can lock and unlock the school and manage the day to day maintenance and health, safety and compliance activities we would not be able to offer a great Catholic education to our young people.

You will be supported by a great team, with great leadership across the schools and we provide training and support to our staff and are keen to develop people in their current roles and to prepare for future roles, as a Multi-Academy Trust there is potential for progression to more senior roles in future.

**Purpose of the Post**:
To support the efficient operation/maintenance of school buildings in line with all aspects of health and safety to include**:
1. Security of premises
2. Heating and lighting
3. Maintaining high standards of cleanliness
4. Maintaining premises in good state of repair
5. Maintenance of school mini buses

**PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES: %**

1. Security of Premises - 20%
- Ensure School is secure out of working hours, following correct procedures for Alarm systems.
- Ensure all doors & windows are secured and all lights & heaters are switched off after use
- Undertake the responsibility of key holder as required.
- Ensure school is open for pupils each school day and to persons who have hired the premises for public or private use in line with the schools lettings policy.
- Carry out all necessary compliance related activities for example checks to ensure fire alarms, extinguishers and related equipment is fully functional at all times.

2. Ensure that the temperature within the school is maintained at appropriate levels and that all 20% heating and lighting equipment operates efficiently, is regularly maintained with due consideration to energy efficiency. Ability to operate the schools computerised Building
Management Systems.

3. Undertake other duties as required by the post. This will include; take delivery and store 20% materials, undertake porterage duties, ensure that school site is kept clean and safe, e.g. clearing litter and gritting ice, snow clearance etc. Ensure all equipment used is maintained to required health and safety standards. Identify and report any repairs and maintenance work required to Trust Compliance and Premises Manager or SLT as required.

4. Building maintenance related duties - carry out handyperson duties in respect of minor/ 20% temporary repairs (see notes below, this list is not exhaustive).

HANDYPERSON TASKS

Plumbing:

- simple tap repairs
- ball valve re-washering
- clearing blocked sinks, wash basins, baths, urinals, etc.
- clearing drainage blocks (above ground level) where visible and accessible
- replacement of toilet seats
- lavatory (cistern), pull chains and handles, etc.
- replace plugs on bath, sink, and wash hand basins
- replace with equal broken pipe brackets, fix or refix
- ditto - toilet roll holders
- cleaning gutters, rainwater pipes and gullies
- attention to simple leaks suing compression or plastic fittings as appropriate
- thoroughly flush through cold water installation at the end of each holiday period.
Electrical:

- replacement of all types of tubes and lamps
- refixing of dislodged light fitting diffusers
- removal of broken light fitting diffusers
- replacement of missing screws from light switches and socket outlets
- replacing fuses (on a like-for-like basis)
