Owen Mumford are looking to hire a Health Safety and Environmental Compliance Officer, could this be your next role?
**Scope**:
Acting as a champion of HSE best practice, the HSE Compliance Officer will approach the role with a continuous improvement mindset and will provide a professional and high-quality advisory service to all areas of the UK business. They will drive initiatives that promote the right behaviours within Owen Mumford ensuring that associates take responsibility for meeting high standards of HSE management. Will be responsible for ensuring adequate management systems are in place to maintain full compliance with the law, ISO45001, ISO14001 and with the highest standards of HSE best practice. Whilst the scope of the role principally covers UK operations, the HSE Advisor is responsible for maintaining close relationships with key associates at overseas affiliates to facilitate sharing of HSE information and ideas within the group.
**Key Responsibilities**:
- Ensure risk assessment and incident management systems are in place which enable compliance with Safety and Environment legislation.
- Maintain and improve management system documentation so it meets the standards of ISO45001 and ISO14001 and comply with HSE best practice.
- Co-ordinate HSE governance structure to actively manage HSE within the business including annual senior management HSE reviews, regular HSE management and department meetings.
- Monitor and report the leading and lagging indicators of the HSE governance structure and recommend improvements, as necessary.
- Establish HSE roles within the business to support compliance and best practice including safety representatives, first aiders and fire marshals.
- Develop and regularly report on appropriate HSE key performance indicators that assist the Executive Team and other managers with monitoring performance.
- Manage the bi-annual third-party external health and safety audit under the RoSPA QSA audit scheme or a scheme operated by an alternative body. Ensure all actions arising from the bi-annual external audit are addressed and the business continues to improve on the high standards of HSE performance achieved to date.
- Represent the business as required during external third-party audits and during interventions by enforcement authorities such as the Health and Safety Executive or the Environmental Agency.
- Maintain the system for timely reporting and investigation of safety and environmental events (accidents, incidents, near misses and non-conformities).
- Provide ongoing support and high-quality advice to managers, as requested, on all matters relating to HSE and to include occupational health interventions, specialist risk assessments, waste management, energy efficiency, contractor management and control of substances hazardous to health (COSHH).
- Recommend appropriate HSE training for associates at all levels within the business and ensure compliance with mandatory training requirements is monitored and effectiveness of training is established.
**To be successful in this role, you will need**:
- Previous experience working in a manufacturing environment** (Essential)**:

- Understanding current HSE legislation and its impact on the business
- Experience of evaluating environmental aspects and impacts
- Experience in HSE Management systems and procedures (multi-site, manufacturing environment)****:
- A good understanding of sustainability
- Highly computer literate including a good working knowledge of MS Office products****:
- Competent in developing systems and procedures
